Chateau fire department to get new truck upgrade

Fr. rs Commissioners reduce county budget and allocate funds for a Ford truck chassis with a new body for the Chateau fire department. The plan includes a 1 000 foot hose capacity a 40 gallon chemical tank and mounting of axes and equipment to remove reliance on hand pulled carts. City council action expected in September to improve late night response and safety.

Choteau Triumphs Over Power 7 2 In Eight Inning Rally

Choteau broke open a tied game in the eighth with five runs and defeated Power 7 to 2 as Obert Dale fanned 12 and drove in multiple runs. Power led 2 0 until late, then misplayed key pitches while Blitzen worked in relief for Power. The game featured a close eight innings and a lively bench debate in the last two frames.

Forests ban smoking to curb fires in Montana

Beginning today smoking is prohibited in Lewis and Clark National Forest except in camps homes and designated points. The Flathead forest also bans smoking with entrance permits required after Thursday. Officials cite dry brush hot winds and rising fire danger as causes. Fires started by smokers and campers reach 45 by July 20 versus a 10 year average of 55. by July 30 fires rose to 80.

Custody Reassigned After Judge Rules In Kidnapping Case

James E. Sheble of Pendroy gains custody of his infant daughter pending Montana supreme court action. He filed habeas corpus alleging lack of jurisdiction in the adoption. Judge H H Ewing ordered custody after finding the adoption defective due to lack of father notification and consent. The case followed a high profile incident when the child was taken from the maternal grandparents June 20.

Home Oilers Club To Meet Locals Sunday

Chateau ball fans will see a fast game Sunday as the Home Oil club of Great Falls visits the locals. The Oilers have been high in the Great Falls Twilight League and come to Chateau not for a mere practice game. After an 18 to 1 defeat of Excel two weeks ago, the Great Falls club is cautious, promising a red hot game regardless of the outcome.

Representatives from every 4 H club in the county attended last Sundays picnic at the city park. The event featured a life saving demonstration by Boy Scouts Robison and Nordhagen, first aid talks by Dru Bateman, and a 10 to 9 ball game won by the Chateau Boy Scouts over Diamond Valley 4 Hclub.

Chorvan Lions met at the Beaupre cafe for a biweekly luncheon. Rev Spaulding of Great Falls spoke on War and the Suppression. Eleanor Miller, also of Great Falls, gave two readings. Guthrie urged local employers to place students in jobs.

R. D. Halpin of Bynum, attorney, won the democratic nomination for county attorney after receiving 41 write-in votes in the primaries. Incumbent B. I. Packer earned 34 write-in votes on the democratic ticket as the republican candidate.

A small lighting fire at the head of the north fork of Sunriver was extinguished Friday night with little or no damage, according to Walter N. Streeter, local forest officer.

Elderly woman returned to Warm Springs asylum after strange dementia case

An elderly woman registered as Mrs Struble at the Beaupre hotel after being found wandering at Dutton depot for about five days. Officials say she crossed from Peace River Alberta and has prior asylum history. Undersheriff Z Tu Billings and Dr Alex M Macaulay transported her to Warm Springs with Red Cross aid.

County budget trimmed in 1932 plan by 17305

County board of commissioners approved a reduced 1932 preliminary budget in special session. The plan estimates 183,920 for next year to cover expenses, with last year’s actual spending at 202,394.68, about 56,655.38 higher than 1931. Revenues excluding taxes totaled 23,832.55, while estimated revenue for the current year is 22,765. Cuts were made in 23 departments. only five saw increases for Bridge, Elections, Burial of Deceased Soldiers, and Land Classification.
