State Agricultural College at Bozeman publishes leading articles on tillage experiments funded by state and federal governments. The pieces describe results from Montana soil studies and urge readers to save and file these articles for reference.
Montana experts back mixed farming and dairying to boost prosperity. Ringling Consolidated, led by Richard T. Ringling, owns 125000 acres in Smith River valley Meagher county and plans expansion to 10000 Holstein cows. A White Sulphur Springs dairy barn and creamery support a joint marketing system with farmer tenants and tested profits on initial trial farms.
Chris P. Burnstad, once dubbed cattle king of North Dakota, was brought to Bozeman by Sheriff Jim Smith on a charge of obtaining $30,000 under false pretenses from the St. Paul Cattle Loan company. Extradition papers were issued by Governor Dixon and presented to Governor Nestos.
The piece notes the Ringling plan to transform Central Montana into a dairy hub akin to Wisconsin, with milk cows touted as a key factor in regional growth. John V. Potter, immigration agent for the White Sulphur Springs and Yellowstone Park Railway, oversees the effort and invites farmers to write to White Sulphur Springs for information. The article also comments that girls learn to swim more easily than men because instructors gain no physical kick from teaching.
