Four held in county jail on bad check charges
Four suspects, two men and two women led by Chateau, were returned by Sheriff A. O. Peterson to Teton county jail for arraignment. G. H. Heiser, Donald Smith, Dorothy Shartzer, and Viola Grinsteiner Heiser were captured near Great Falls and are held on alleged bad check offenses. Onlookers and officers report prior records for Smith and Heiser. Early Tuesday two men attempted a burglary at Pendroyt and fled in a gray Mercury, then tried to break into the Teton Tavern at Dutton before alarms prompted a police broadcast about the car.

Excellent Fourth of July weather drew about 3 000 to 4 000 people to Choteau for the rodeo parade and dance. The event, praised as safe and sane with few arrests, featured 102 contestants and multiple rodeo winners across bareback, saddle bronc, calf roping, wild cow milking, barrel racing, and wild horse racing with prize money tallied for top performers.

Funeral rites held Friday for H. Freeman
Funeral services for Henry Freeman 73 were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist church with Rev. Grant S. Moore and Chateau Lodge No. 44 A. F. and A. M. presiding. Freeman, a Teton County sheepman and rancher born in Oamaru New Zealand June 30 1881, died the previous Wednesday. He had long ties to the Chateau community and leaves a widow stepchildren brothers and sisters among other relatives. Burial followed at Chateau cemetery with G. L Banks Funeral Home directing.

Forest Service creates a fire danger weather station at Kenneth Gleason ranch 27 miles northeast of Chateau on the Teton river south fork. Jack Hinman says the low Gleason station and Bear Top lookout will feed data to map fire danger and guide crew deployment through the season, ending in late September. Donald Phillips of Dupuyer served as best man and Mrs. Dee Bowlin of Roseburg Oregon was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Janette Wander and Karen Moritz. The bride attended Conrad schools and works at Ben Franklin. Jensen attended Chateau schools and earned a high school diploma while serving in the Navy. he now works at the Electric Center in Conrad.

Pastor Returns From Visit in Middle West
Rev. A Bernard Gravdal and family returned to Choteau from a five week trip to Minneapolis Chicago Eau Claire and Valders Wise after attending the Evangelical Lutheran church biennial convention in Minneapolis June 8 to 15. A four point budget for 1955 56 was adopted and plans for merger with three other Lutheran bodies discussed. Delegates approved an in principle liberal arts college in California and set a 15000 yearly budget for church television administration. The convention elected Dr Frederick Scholtz of New York as president. The Gravdals visited relatives in Eau Claire Chicago and Valders during the trip.

Burial Friday for Hollis Higgins Pioneer Rancher in Montana
Hollis Howard Higgins 82 a Teton county rancher died Tuesday after an 18 month illness. Born Otis Maine 1872 to Mary Miner Higgins and Richard Higgins he moved to Choteau and Desert Claim before settling in Teton county. He belonged to Choteau Lodge No. 44 A F and A M and the Methodist church. Burial Friday at 2 pm in the Chotean cemetery with the Masonic Temple and local lodge in charge. Survivors include son four grandchildren one great grandchild two brothers and several relatives.

TAGGS Meet Sunday for O Mok See District Games
The TAGGS district of the Montana Saddle Club Association will stage an annual O MOK SEE at the Teton Saddle Club grounds in Choteau on July 11. Members include Teton county Choteau Greenfield Fairfield Dutton Great Falls Saxidile and Simms clubs. A parade forms at the Teton county courthouse at 12 30 pm and proceeds to the saddle grounds. Registration begins after 11 30 am with admission 60 cents for high school and up, 25 cents for grade school, free for children.
