Hailstorm damages crops across Teton county belt
Two successive hailstorms last Saturday noon and 2:30 swept a belt of Teton county from Pendroy toward Collins and Dutton, damaging advanced wheat and other crops. Dutton area reported worst losses with some fields completely destroyed. Insurance played a role as several farmers held hail coverage with state or private carriers.

Plans for North Montana Fair County Exhibit Boost
Harold F DePue secretary manager of the North Montana fair at Great Falls met with county commissioners in Chateau to discuss a county collective booth this fall. The fair would provide exhibit space and offer five cash prizes 125 100 75 50 and 25 to top county displays. Counties may cover minor costs for arranging exhibits and transport. Last year 122 Teton residents exhibited earning 76.75 with no county collective exhibit. Chouteau county won 697 in cash and state totals exceeded 18000. Prizes this year total 22280.50 with expected exhibit increases across 20 departments.

Two Cars Go Into Ditch North of Town
On Monday evening two cars went into the ditch north of town after a passing attempt without sounding the horn. J W Muir of Bardstown Kentucky claimed the front car swerved onto the road as he began to pass. The Buick coupe carrying Dr J J Wakefield of Bloomfield Kentucky and Wm Jones from Anson City California tipped and rolled. Dr Wakefield suffered a sprained neck and minor bruises. no other serious injuries were reported. The Buick was towed to New Chateau garage for repairs. Muir’s Bardstown home ties to Stephen Foster and Bardstown Chamber of Commerce distributed colorful folders promoting My Old Kentucky Home.

Main Avenue Closure Friday for City Oiling Work
Chateau will close Main Avenue and two side streets First and Second streets North on Friday for state highway oiling. Two crews under Fred Wolfe and Claude Davis will oil from Birch Creek to Langey's corner with traffic routed via Second Avenue West and exceptions for the New Chateau garage. About 35 workers operate with a heating plant and tank trucks delivering 70 percent asphalt oil.
