Chateau Lions Club Aims for Bigger Fourth of July Event
The Chateau Lions Club plans a three day Fourth of July celebration starting Saturday with rodeo races and street sports. Mayor Burns leads the committee with 60 head of wild horses and 50 cattle for the rodeo and a $25 prize for the best bucking horse. Old time punchers will judge rodeo events and betting will be allowed at a new parimutuel stand.

Chateau became the official broadcasting station for the Lewis and Clark forest with KBDH, a 3.4 megacycle shortwave system. The master set weighs 200 pounds with a 136 ft antenna, and five portable SP sets (around 400 pounds) will operate from Benchmark Lubec Porphyry Mountain Lewistown and Gates Park to support fire emergencies. Julian Stensen serves as dispatcher from Chateau as Missoula schedules nine half hour broadcasts daily from 9:15 to 9:45.

Former Acantha Editor Max Bishop Visits Choteau
Max Bishop longtime editor and publisher of The Choteau Acantha from 1912 to 1918 visited Choteau with Mrs. Bishop on Monday after leaving Elkador Iowa. They planned a short return trip with Choteau friends for a mountain fishing outing and expect to come back soon. Bishop praised Montana road improvements noting his Helena to Choteau drive took about two hours.

Lewis Thompson Dies Here at Chateau Hospital
Lewis Thompson aged about 61 died at 7 p m Tuesday at the Chateau hospital. Cause not definite but partly from injuries after a fall near Parkway cafe last Tuesday. Thompson lived in Chateau since 1910 and ran hotels and saloons, once owned Family Liquor Store. He was Iowa born, previously from Bainsville, survived by brother Albert Thompson of Devils Lake ND. Body at Roberts Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

Choteau Hospital Showcases New Look After Remodel
Remodeling at Choteau hospital nears completion with a white exterior and light green trim. Additions include a two story front annex, basement extension, interior reorganization, new beds and equipment, a microscope, quartz lamp, and infrared lamp. The main entrance features a Venetian lamp and illuminated night bell. A recent free dance hosted by local business leaders drew a large crowd.

4 H CLUB PICNIC A HUGE SUCCESS AT DUTTON PARK
The third annual all county 4 H picnic at Dutton Lions park drew about 1400 attendees from 360 parked cars on Sunday June 27. The event opened the park funded by the Dutton Lions club with ground improvements by Diamond Valley 4 H and leaders Fred Van Horn and Harry Schultz. Highlights included a German band from Teton County high, community singing with Art Habel, and a program of 4 H delegates from Greenfield and Diamond Valley plus readings by Donna Hanberg. Sports contests led by Paul Rice crowned winners in 100 yard dash, 50 yard races for various ages, nail hammering, saw racing, and a greased pig novelty race.

U S forest service engineer C W West from the Missoula regional office arrived in Chateau to meet Ranger George Davenidack. No immediate projects planned for Teton district of Lewis and Clark forest. three improvements announced for Sun river district under Ranger Tom Wiles in Augusta with funds 15000 for Benchmark road 12000 for Beaver gulch road and 6500 for White and White road. Construction to begin this month.

Heated Lions Pool Opens With Extended Hours For July Fourth
The Lions municipal swimming pool now has a heating plant completed after eight weeks of work costing about 1500 dollars. Jos Knudtzon held the building contract and J E Byrne the plumbing and heating. Hours are 10 a m to 10 p m. the pool will serve the public during the Fourth of July celebration and is expected to draw more visitors.

Teton All-Stars Defeat Sunburst on July 4th at Home
The Teton All-Stars beat Sunburst 20 to 7 on the local diamond as nearly every player batted three times. Pitcher Peore left with an injury and Nerman Earls substituted well. Arley Hanson becomes catcher after Virgil Allum’s departure. Dellwo collected five hits in six trips. A Fourth of July clash with Cut Bank is set for noon to finish before the rodeo, gate split 75 percent with a 60-40 purse.

Dude Ranchman Ivor Lestrud Completes Final Proof
Ivor C. Lestrud, a longtime figure in Teton county dude ranching, completed final proof on a grazing homestead west of Chateau before U S Commissioner C H Ferris. Witnesses were Percy Cox and Dr E J Crary. He had married last fall to Blythe Hanson, a Simms high school teacher, a secret until this spring, and they now live at the Allen dude ranch on Sunriver where he works as foreman.
