Eight Man-Caused Forest Fires On Lewis and Clark 1928
Statistics from the Lewis and Clark national forest show eight of nine fires in the 1928 season were man caused and one by lightning. Total acres burned were very small, estimated at 17. Three man caused fires came from carelessness with campfires, two from smoking, and three from brush burning at the Sun River dam site.

Fires in 1928 season show unusually few blazes
The 1928 fire year saw few blazes as lightning stayed light and railroads and the public cooperated in fire prevention. The forest service free 'f ing' system improved and man caused fires peaked in the past year mainly due to Sun River brush burning, with 23 000 acres burned this season and 141 000 acres historically.
