Record of the Coldest Weather in the State
Chateau reports the coldest temperature in the state with 42 below zero on Monday morning, rival towns recording 40 below. Government thermometers conflict with local readings and records show multiple deep freezes since 1922 to 1929. Weather lingers with little public suffering, while fuel use rises and water pumping remains high. Local notes include a butterfly found alive, high city water output, rabbit damage to cemetery trees, and railroad ticket sales up.
