Social Security Starting This Month
The 1950 amendments to the Social Security act allow many self employed individuals to gain protection effective January 1, 1951. Eligible self employed workers include sole owners and partners in diverse trades. professionals and farm operators are excluded. The measure also benefits about half a million 65 year olds who lacked sufficient covered work, needing $50 in covered earnings in six quarters since 1937.

Reverend Scheidler Dies in Indiana Heart Attack
Rev. Russel Scheidler pastor of St. John's Fairfield Indiana died of a heart attack while on a business trip visiting his mother in Greenburg near Indianapolis. He directed resettlement of displaced persons in Montana and helped refugees, with ties to Fairfield St. WIlliams Dutton Guardian Angel churches. Burial planned in Indiana. Helena diocese to name a successor.

Bulldogs Split Weekend With Chinook Chinook and Shelby
Chateau high school Bulldogs opened with a 30-29 win over Chinook Sugarbeeters and then fell 43-33 to Shelby Coyotes. Gale Bandon led Ghoteau with 13 points, Murr had 12, Stirland 10, Cowan 9 as Chinook's tight game stayed close throughout. Shelby's 43-33 victory came in a low scoring affair with Lingle scoring 10 for Shelby. FFA beat Conrad 33-19 Friday while dropping a 45-43 heartbreaker to Simms on Saturday. The Bulldogs host Pairfield Eagles Friday with B and B squads to follow.

Third Annual Talent Show Set March 2
The Intermediate Fellowship of the Choteau Methodist church will host its third annual talent show on March 2 at the Choteau high school auditorium. Entry is open to children through eighth grade with two age groups and four divisions per group. Prizes will be awarded in each division. Mountain States Telephone Rate Increase Approved in Montana
Public Service Commission grants a 70 percent increase to Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph after hearings in Helena last June. The decision cites higher operating costs and the need to attract capital, with new rates to take effect with the Feb. 22 billing. Rates rise for individual and business lines, rural lines, and extensions, plus other service adjustments.

Wheels Crack Boulder 104 Point Game in Hammering Show
The Chateau Wheels overwhelmed the Boulder Nighthawks 104 to 32 in Boulder last Saturday. Earlier they beat Brady 45-40 at home. Chateau girls beat Brady 24-20 in a close la femme contest. Joan Schneider starred in both games as the Wheels topped Augusta 67-41 later, building a 26-5 first-quarter lead. Boulder invited the Wheels to play the local high school team next month.

Erickson 72 Dies in Great Falls Hospital
Elias S Erickson 72 father of Sheridan Erickson of the Dutton Power communities died last Thursday in a Great Falls hospital. Born in Namsos Norway June 28 1878 he came to America at 21. He lived in Dutton 1916 then Great Falls since 1922 working as contractor and carpenter. Survived by son Sheridan near Power and daughter Ruth Ensley Great Falls. Funeral by Rev A B Holland at Croxford’s Great Falls burial at Dutton cemetery.

Record Blood Drive Sets Choteau Pintong New High
Choteau and northern Teton county residents produced a record blood draw as 155 pints were collected at the Red Cross unit on Tuesday from 2 pm to after 8 pm. Some 176 donors registered at the Chateau Methodist church basement, with eight beds in use and crowding prompting calls to Great Falls for more supply.

Baldwin Organ Debuts in Chapel Concert at Chateau Church
Mrs. Jack Duffy of Great Falls presented a Baldwin electronic organ in an hour long concert at Chateau Methodist Church assisted by Mrs Mora Wiprud and the Appalo male quartet. The event drew many from Great Falls and Dutton and funded by the ladies study group who served lunch. Mrs Averill will not play again until March with local volunteers to preside at the organ on Sundays.

County chairwoman Alice Robison urged every resident to donate to the March of Dimes citing polio surges.
