Paper Pickups Slated Sunday
The American Legion with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will collect paper next Sunday January twenty seventh in Choteau. Residents should place bundles on the curb by 11 a m to recycle magazines and newspapers and support youth programs. Scrap paper will be loaded into a car and shipped from Teton county with receiving points at Dutton Fairfield and Chateau. Clothing Drive Seeks Garments Through Feb Fifteenth
County chairmen Bob Savage and Mrs. Vincent Ward urge a clothing drive running until February 15 with drop points at J C Penney and the Catholic social center. They seek clean wearable clothes, shoes, and fabric scraps. Last year the United National Clothing collection supplied 25 million garments to Europe, China and the Philippines. this year’s goal is 100 million garments plus shoes and bedding.

Montana Winter Wheat Plantings Hit Record Acreage
Montana farmers sowed a record 1,718,000 acres of winter wheat for 1916 harvest per the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. Hog production in 1945 fell 20 percent from the prior year while wheat plantings rose about 2000 acres above last season and 600,000 above the 10 year average. Pig crops show 1945 farrowings above the average 1934-43 head, with 247,000 pigs slaughtered versus 429,000 in 1944 and a prior record 698,000 swine two years earlier.

Carl Wedum manager of Wedum's in Choteau says clothing availability will not improve much for another year after attending a Federated Stores meeting in Minneapolis. He notes heavy goods hardest to procure, sleeping conditions at the hotel were terrible, and the Minneapolis Market Week drew about 600 buyers and 93 salesmen as he traveled from Twin Cities to Billings and Great Falls.
