Winter Wheat Condition Good In Most Of Montana
Winter wheat remained in good condition across the state ending December, with central and southwest areas showing some fair condition. Light wheat damage occurred from windy, dusty conditions in Fergus, Judith Basin, and Stillwater counties. Snow cover generally protects crops, cattle and sheep are in good shape, and supplemental feed remained high in December. December 1972 weather brought Arctic cold, 3 to 10 inch snowfall, and many days below zero before gradual warming in the month’s second half. Winds 25 mph plus were common along the east Rockies slope.
