First Blood Drawing of Year Scheduled for Thursday

The first local blood drawing of 1971 will be held Thursday January 14 at the United Methodist Church starting at 2 p.m. Mrs. Grant Curtis, blood program chairman, invites donors ages 18 to 65 who have not had hepatitis malaria or recent illness. The Rainbow Girls will watch children from 4 to 6 p.m. while parents donate.

March of Dimes Fund Campaign Is Under Way

Mrs. Jim Ramaker announces Teign County’s 1971 March of Dimes drive with mail appeals in local homes this month. Each donation funds research education patient care and community service targeting birth defects affecting about 250 000 children yearly. Residents urged to stamp the return envelope and support the cause.

William W Yeager formerly of Choteau died at his Poulsbo Washington home on December 24 He served in World War II earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart He lived in Kitsap County 27 years worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyards and with North Kitsap School District Survived by wife Dorothy four sons George John W Jerry E Joseph A and daughter Marcia Funeral rites held at St Olaf s Poulsbo with burial at Woodlawn Bremerton.

Two Former Choteau Residents Die in Missoula

James C. Morgan age 95 and his son James Morgan age 56, former Choteau residents who moved to Missoula in 1935, died the same day recently. The elder Morgan served as Choteau mayor. L. C. Burns of Choteau attended the Missoula funeral services.

Annual Hospital Association Meeting Slated for Jan 18

The Teton Memorial Hospital Association will hold its annual meeting Monday Jan 18 at 8 p.m. in the county courthouse chamber. Only paid up members may vote, requiring $1 membership by 8 p.m. Jan 18. send checks to Ron Hinman, Treasurer, to receive the 1971 membership card.

1970 Births and Marriages Rise in Teton County

County records show 77 births in 1970 up from 62 in 1969, the highest since 1965. Deaths totaled 60, down 14 from 1969. Marriage license requests rose to 49, while divorces ticked up to 11. A long list of birth announcements follows, noting numerous names from Dec 1969 to Dec 1970.

Phillip Hubert Services Held in Fairfield

Funeral services for Phillip Hubert 72 were held at United Church of Christ in Fairfield with Rev. James E. Nolan officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Hubert born May 28 1898 in Russia came to America at eight and later settled in Montana. Tea to Sponsor Host Family Interest by AFS Club

The student American Field Service Club will host a tea on Sunday January 17 in the Chateau Elementary School cafeteria from 4 to 6 p.m. The event features Becky Ochoa, this year’s AFS student from Venezuela, and aims to promote the AFS program and encourage hosting a foreign student next year.

First Aid Classes To Start Jan. II

Beginner and refresher Red Cross First Aid courses will be held at the county court house in Chateau beginning Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. These will be three hour sessions. All First Aiders whose cards expire in the next five months may renew at this time.

Teton County Sportsmen Plan Two Meetings

Two meetings are planned this month by the Teton County Sportsmen Association. The regular meeting on Tuesday Jan 12 at 8 p.m. at the court house in Chateau will include officer elections. A special meeting is set for Monday Jan 18 with the location to be announced and guests J J Klabunde and Nels Thoreson will discuss the Beaver Creek elk harvest.

4 H Livestock Judging Contest Held at Fairfield

Four counties Teton Cascade Toole and Glacier sent 35 4 H members to a Fairfield invitational livestock judging event at Sunny Slope Ranch owned by Oliver Forseth and Sons. Judges and officials from Chateau Shelby and local farms oversaw beef swine sheep and horse classes with demonstrations and high point honors awarded to Carla Hodgskiss and Linda Smith.

Svendsen Rites Held at Harlem

Funeral services were held Tuesday December 29 for Peter Svendsen 78 at the American Lutheran Church in Harlem with Rev Peter Hovland officiating Interment followed in Silver Bow Cemetery Hogeland Svendsen born August 27 1892 in Fredricksav en Denmark came to the United States in 1912 homesteaded in Hogeland He married Katherine Schaack at Chinook December 24 1923 they farmed in Hogeland retired 1946 moved to Harlem Survivors include Mrs Pete Ekegren of Choteau.

McOmber Named Chairman Of Montana Agriculture Panel

Sen elect Gordon McOmber representing District 20 in Montana’s 42nd Legislature is named chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee. He also draws Local Government, Fish and Game, and Irrigation and Water committees.
