Mora Family Buys Lee’s Grocery in Cascade Area

Mr and Mrs Charles Mora of Cascade took possession of Lee s Grocery on February 16 and will assume full control on March 1. The purchase includes a grocery store shop trailer court and house. The Moras, long time Cascade county residents, plan to stay in Chateau until school ends.

Teton License Sales Nearly Match 1964 Totals

Vehicle license sales through February 23, 1965 show slight gains and near equality with 1964. Auto licenses 2,520 vs 2,512. truck licenses 2,110 vs 2,112. trailers and motorcycles also close to year-ago figures. County treasurer Lorraine Maynard notes a late rush before February 15 deadline.

Term Postponed as Pleas Changed

The February District Court jury term was postponed to Monday March 1 at 10 am. Two criminal cases set for Wednesday were resolved when Melvin Black and Larry Carrier changed pleas to guilty on first degree burglary. They received two-year sentences and were placed on probation.

Sheriff Organizes Teton County Possé

Several Chateau men met for a meeting to organize a search and rescue unit in Teton county. Plans call for forming a county sheriff's posse with Sheriff Al Becker to lead. A posse of about 20 members was seen as likely. Bill Obernolte will call a follow up after checking Cascade county posse details.

Cardinals edge into Northern Division tournament berth

The Dutton Cardinals clinched a Northern Division tournament spot with a come from behind to beat Simms in a Monday challenge. Belt defeated Augusta and Simms defeated Cascade in the first and second rounds of the tourney. Dan Ingersoll led the Elks with 15 points, while Gallagher paced Cascade with 24.

Calving Begins As Winter Returns And Bridges Fail

Calving and lambing started in Teton county as a cold winter blast hit the region. Farmers rushed newborn calves to barns while mud and flooding closed ranges west of the divide and bridges failed under ice jams. Choteau Adopts Fixed Teacher Salary Schedule

The Choteau public schools adopt a fixed salary schedule after a two year effort by school authorities and the Montana Education Association. The plan links pay to CPI indices and outlines credit requirements for master's equivalency, outside experience, and quarter credits.

Four Chateau Boy Scouts to receive top honors next week

Four Chateau Boy Scouts will earn top honors in two ceremonies next week. On Tuesday March 2 at 8 p m in the Methodist Church parlors Eagle Scout ranks will be awarded to Gerry Yeager and Burr Field in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. The court is open to the public with Arnold Hansa urging parents Lions Club members and interested persons to attend. On Sunday February 28 Field John Camden and Edward McColler will receive God and Country awards at the 11 am Methodist Church service. Bill McCauley will describe the nature of the award and Rev C Fred Crowe will preside.

Barribal Sells Local Bank Holdings

F C Barribal president of Citizens State Bank announced completion of arrangements through which he sold his interest in the Chateau bank to Bob Gronberg vice president and longtime bank employee. Barribal will remain as director and president and will work in an advisory capacity. All other staff stay in their current positions.

Pancake Day Set By H and H Implement

H and H Implement in Chateau hosts Pancake Day on Friday March 5 with free pancakes 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A movie Olympic Elk shows at 2:30 p.m. that day and a week long bargain roundup sale begins.
