Fairfield residents vote on a proposed Job Corps camp planned 4½ miles southwest of the city. Ballots mailed to registered voters and landowners seek sentiment for the camp with Montana youths as possible enrollees. Ballots due by Feb 26.
Mr and Mrs Charles Mora of Cascade took possession of Lee s Grocery on February 16 and will assume full control on March 1. The purchase includes a grocery store shop trailer court and house. The Moras, long time Cascade county residents, plan to stay in Chateau until school ends.
Vehicle license sales through February 23, 1965 show slight gains and near equality with 1964. Auto licenses 2,520 vs 2,512. truck licenses 2,110 vs 2,112. trailers and motorcycles also close to year-ago figures. County treasurer Lorraine Maynard notes a late rush before February 15 deadline.
Three Choteau men George Mader Ron Brumberger and Marvin Schock will represent the 10 member Choteau Fast Draw Club at the state invitational fast draw tour nament in Missoula on Sunday.
Jim Schubert and his daughter Julie of Chicago spent a weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hanusa, sharing time at their home and enjoying local hospitality.
The February District Court jury term was postponed to Monday March 1 at 10 am. Two criminal cases set for Wednesday were resolved when Melvin Black and Larry Carrier changed pleas to guilty on first degree burglary. They received two-year sentences and were placed on probation.
Several Chateau men met for a meeting to organize a search and rescue unit in Teton county. Plans call for forming a county sheriff's posse with Sheriff Al Becker to lead. A posse of about 20 members was seen as likely. Bill Obernolte will call a follow up after checking Cascade county posse details.
The Choteau Bulldogs meet the Cut Bank Wolves at 3 30 p m today in the Northern Class B tourney second game with a chance to advance. Key players Banis Sasser Dellno and others suit up while alternates Scott Davison travel. If Choteau wins they face the Conrad Sunburst winner Friday at 7 30 p m in Cut Bank.
The Dutton Cardinals clinched a Northern Division tournament spot with a come from behind to beat Simms in a Monday challenge. Belt defeated Augusta and Simms defeated Cascade in the first and second rounds of the tourney. Dan Ingersoll led the Elks with 15 points, while Gallagher paced Cascade with 24.
Calving and lambing started in Teton county as a cold winter blast hit the region. Farmers rushed newborn calves to barns while mud and flooding closed ranges west of the divide and bridges failed under ice jams. Snow totals varied across Montana with Billings leading at 81 inches of moisture in eight inches of snow.
The Choteau public schools adopt a fixed salary schedule after a two year effort by school authorities and the Montana Education Association. The plan links pay to CPI indices and outlines credit requirements for master's equivalency, outside experience, and quarter credits.
Four Chateau Boy Scouts will earn top honors in two ceremonies next week. On Tuesday March 2 at 8 p m in the Methodist Church parlors Eagle Scout ranks will be awarded to Gerry Yeager and Burr Field in an Eagle Scout Court of Honor. The court is open to the public with Arnold Hansa urging parents Lions Club members and interested persons to attend. On Sunday February 28 Field John Camden and Edward McColler will receive God and Country awards at the 11 am Methodist Church service. Bill McCauley will describe the nature of the award and Rev C Fred Crowe will preside.
F C Barribal president of Citizens State Bank announced completion of arrangements through which he sold his interest in the Chateau bank to Bob Gronberg vice president and longtime bank employee. Barribal will remain as director and president and will work in an advisory capacity. All other staff stay in their current positions.
H and H Implement in Chateau hosts Pancake Day on Friday March 5 with free pancakes 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A movie Olympic Elk shows at 2:30 p.m. that day and a week long bargain roundup sale begins. Harold Hinman invites ranchers farmers and others to attend. Prizes totaling 14 will be awarded to those estimating horsepower gains after a minor tractor tuneup.
The county Red Cross chapter will sponsor first aid training in the courthouse at Chateau starting Tuesday March 2. Courses are open to the public.
Mr and Mrs Bil Derick of Great Falls were Thursday afternoon guests at the Irv Thompsons.
Funeral services for Martin Ole Iverson 70 retired Eden area farmer who died in a Great Falls hospital Monday are set for 1 30 p m today Elder A M Matar will officiate burial will be in Highland Cemetery Iverson born May 7 1894 in Minnesota and farmed in Eden from 1905 to 1962 Survivors include sister Dora Iverson Chateau and sons Clyde and Vernon Fairfield.
Virginia Gollehon from Chester visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Leon Gollehon for the weekend.
L W Murr, city county civil defense director, announced resignation at a Monday meeting while remaining county director. Bill Obernolte was named his successor. Choteau council discussed parking space use, possible business relocation, and planned recodification of fire and traffic ordinances. City election set for April 5 with filing deadline March 6-20.
