George W. P. Hunt was inaugurated February 14 as Arizona's first governor in a modest ceremony. Premier Yuan Shi Kai was elected China’s first president but reportedly wishes to resign in favor of Sun Yat Sen.
Mr. Green, the only son of the wealthiest woman, is a business man who has built a fortune through his own efforts.
A March 1 charity style basketball game at the high school auditorium features the local county team meeting Belt city high school. A large turnout is hoped for to cover substantial expenses. An admission of 50 cents with 25 cents extra for reserved seats will be charged.
Telegram announces death of Taylor Davis nephew of Mrs Burrell. He and his mother spent the past summer and fall here attending the county high school until shortly before holidays. Blood poisoning caused the death.
News notes a large coal miners strike set for March first with efforts to avert conflict. It also reports political shifts with Gifford Pinchot backing Roosevelt over La Follette and Massachusetts Governor Foss issuing pardons. The jury awarded damages of 2500 dollars in Nigg versus the Town of Conrad. No appeal talk evident as attendees noted. Attorney D J Ryan of Conrad defended Nigg while Barr Verge defended the state criminal matters.
The Shelby News reports a north of the Marias county division plan. An enthusiastic meeting was held to organize a new county from eastern Teton and western Chouteau north of the Missouri River. The group aims to form a new county from three western Chouteau townships and the northern portion of Teton north of the Missouri River.
Sebastian Sitz of Marmington a native of Russia filed in district court his petition for final citizenship papers. Hearing on the petition is set for May 31.

Montana cattle shipments fell by about 30,000 head from 1910 to 1911 totaling 205,873 with 48,642 bound for coast markets and the rest to Chicago Omaha St Paul and Sioux City. Inspectors recorded 1911 arrests and 99 convictions for stock-law violations, and D W Raymond urges a new estray law and mandatory inter county cattle inspection to tighten control. Re recording brands remains critical as 5,000 to 8,000 brands may become public property if not renewed.
The Congregational divine who sparked debate years ago by urging churches and charities to reject money from questionable sources now supports a world peace movement. Reverend Mr Gladden remains active in promoting ethical funding and global harmony.

Two new counties Blaine and Hill were created at a Monday special election with decisive majorities. Chinook becomes Blaine seat and Havre the Hill seat as Harlem opposed division. Chaster opposed Havre for county seat. temporary officials elected in each county will take office once results are canvassed. Both counties formed from parts of Chouteau. Montana now has thirty one counties.
A band of 38 Chippewa Indians from Rocky Boy's band was moved from Kelena to the Blackfeet reservation by Major McFatridge. Two other Chippewa bands remain at Havre and Ravalli and are expected to be settled on reservations soon. Rocky Boy's group had wandered after two years on Blackfeet land, drawing strong opposition from Blackfeet and other residents.
Citizens of Chateau and vicinity will meet Saturday February 24 at the county courthouse at 2 p.m. to appoint committees and take steps to secure the proposed Park to Park highway. A large attendance is desired.
