County surveyor Caroll Maynard says post war funds will not be released until July and the 1945 millage must be allocated by the state legislature. With budgets nearly exhausted, road and bridge work planned for spring faces postponement amid high costs and weather delays.
The Teton Saddle club pledged $200 to Teton Memorial Hospital association and $10 to the March of Dimes. The first annual meeting is set for Monday night, Feb. 24, to adopt bylaws elect 1947 officers and discuss state association affiliation.
Teton county Farmers Union will meet at the Moose hall in Choteau next Wednesday night Feb 26 from 7 to 9 oclock with Mildred Schwartz secretary announcing a recreation program for adults and youngsters after the two hour meeting. Pot luck lunch will be served.
Pharmacist Gene Barsness of Choteau Drug Co will move to Billings about March 1 to take a position with Huebner Professional Pharmacy. He and his wife moved to Choteau in August of last year as the drug store seeks a replacement.
Fairfield residents gave $561.75 to the infantile paralysis fund with Dutton, Chateau, Power, Pendroy, Bynum, Agawam, Collins and Farmington also contributing. Two Teton patients benefited from the funds, and half the proceeds stay in the county while the rest go to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis.
A series of community events drew strong turnout. Russ Charles performed at the Roxy theater in a Dale Implement Co and International Harvester Co sponsored show with a film titled County Fair. Farm equipment maintenance demos drew about 100 farmers at the Masonic hall with talks by Carter Oil officials. Last Saturday 220 attended the first of the Children's Film Library series at the Roxy.
A special court session named appraisers John Hentgen Oscar Mehl and Elmer Genger to value the Teton County high school property for sale to the highest bidder. They will report within 80 days to Judge R M Hattersley after which a hearing and auction date will be set.
Residents of the Power area are urged to attend a meeting next Thursday night to discuss construction plans for a new school building addition. Supt. Owen Loftsgaarden states funds were advanced by the Federal Works Agency a year ago and preliminary sketches show a gymnasium shop science lab study hall and stage among other facilities. The Feb. 28 meeting at 8 p m at the Power school will review needs and tentative plans from the Power school board.
Wesleyan Service guild meeting at Pete Huidekoper home with 20 members heard officer appointments for the year. Officers include Mrs. Olsen as chairwoman, Mrs Briscoe as vice chair, Mrs Malone as secretary, and Mrs. Robinson as treasurer. A project to collect old clothing for rag rugs was highlighted with a large box sent to Warm Springs occupation ward in care of Miss Urban.
A mayor and four councilmen will be elected at the Chateau city election April 7, Acting City Attorney Bert Packer said this week. Interested candidates may petition to have their names placed on the ballot for either position. Voters will determine which nominees are to hold office by a plurality vote. The mayor at Chateau is paid a salary of $600 a year while councilmen receive a wage of $6 per meeting.
The Triangle league tournament for independent town teams in Teton and Pondora counties starts Tuesday at Conrad and runs three nights through Thursday. Participants include Conrad Fairfield Valier Brady Dutton and Choteau with Choteau facing Fairfield or Conrad on Wednesday. Choteau Legion defeated Valier Independents 52 to 41 on Wednesday night.
Gus Jenkins McDonald son of Mr and Mrs Gus McDonald of Choteau is undergoing basic training in the army air corps at Randolph Field Texas officers from the army recruiting service in Great Falls said. Training lasts six weeks and may lead to a specialized air corps assignment with a preference for airplane engine mechanics. He enlisted for three years. Randolph Field lies near San Antonio Texas.
Teton Sportsmen association sets a meeting for Feb 27 at 8 pm in the courthouse to discuss dividing the Teton area into fish and game districts and to hear an outside speaker. Secretary Earl Hollar notes the push to form State Game Commission District No. 3 including multiple counties with possible future district meeting in Great Falls.
A $5 000 Balcom and Vaughan organ for St. Joseph's parish has been ordered with delivery expected in 12 to 15 months. Agent E L Vaughan of St Louis surveyed Chateau Catholic church and signed the contract. The two manual Reuter instrument weighs 8300 pounds and features 899 pipes with violina dulcet oboe orchestra horn and many tones. It includes concave and radiating pedal keyboard balanced expression crescendo pedals and indicator lights. The organ will match styles used in local churches such as St Anne's Cathedral Great Falls.

Alta Cohoe Fencannon died in a Seattle hospital after spinal meningitis. She was the oldest daughter of Mrs. Cora Cohoe and Kenneth B. Cohoe, and formerly lived at Chateau. She leaves a husband in Seattle and two daughters, Mrs. Robert Hook of Atlanta and Mrs. Warren Engstrom of Tucumcari, plus her parents and four siblings.
First round vetting under way in Great Falls features Power against Centerville at 6 30 Fort Benton meeting Simms at 7 30 Chateau battling Neihart at 8 30 and St Marys facing Fairfield at 9 30 all on Thursday night with district bragging rights on the line.
A project leader training meeting for home demonstration clubs will be held in Choteau this Saturday afternoon at 1:30. Miss Mary Loughead, nutrition specialist from Bozeman, will lead the session on table service review. Frieda A. Schroder notes the topic will be studied at March club meetings.
The Easter Cantata choir from Cha teau and vicinity will rehearse next Wednesday February 26 at 8 30 PM at the Lutheran church. Fairfield Cantata members will rehearse in Fairfield on Monday February 24.
County wide Magpie eradication shoot is scheduled for March 2 and March 9. The event is promoted by the Teton Sportsmen's Association and urged shooters to keep their guns clean and powder dry.
Teton county hog raisers sold 21 sows for a high $2,697.60, averaging $128.45 per head at a Fairfield sale yesterday. Top price was 170 per head for 10 Chester Whites raised by Peder Lee and Son of Power sold to Clyde Allen of Augusta.
