Park Expansion Study Led by Jaycees in Chateau

Jaycees study a potential park expansion south of the City Pavilion to ease campground crowding. Public works manager Jack Sangray outlined a multi year plan including fencing sanitary facilities and grass planting. LaVerne Murr appointed a committee to estimate costs and advise, while an investigation into Chateau street work after the June 1964 flood continues. Elmer Beck Dies in Great Falls at 50

Elmer Beck, 50, Fairfield, died Monday afternoon in a Great Falls hospital after falling ill at home Sunday. Born December 24, 1914, he farmed most of his life and is survived by Lois his widow a daughter Mrs Rodney Stevens of Lydonville Vermont a son Robert of Fairfield two sisters Mrs Bill Bateman of Chateau and Mrs Ruth Mesaros of Great Falls a brother Norman of Fairfield. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Christ with Rev Jon Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery with pallbearers named Gideon Odin James Ballantyne Malcolm Beck James Davis Arthur Anderson and Merle Baldwin.

Seventeen Dutton High School students earned first semester honors. Credit Rating Firm Sends Statements

Dun and Bradstreet plans to request financial statements from 3 million businesses this year. Alvin R. Meyer, manager of the Billings office, notes Teton county firms total 147. The firm lists manufacturers wholesalers and retailers using credit but excludes some service and professional businesses like beauty bars security dealers and real estate brokers.

Deer Observers Spot 700 Near Lussenden Ranch

Three Teton County Sportsmen and a forest ranger documented about 700 deer along the foothill fringe from two miles south to two miles north of the Lussenden ranch on February 4. The group noted fresh snow and light wind allowed movement from sheltered areas and observed deer health and browse conditions. They warned that a mild winter could push deer to private land, threatening haystacks and rancher feed, with overused browse likely if winter deepens.

Falls Man Sentenced to Three Years for Burglary

Glen Ditton of Great Falls, 20, was sentenced in district court at Chateau to three years in prison after pleading guilty to first degree burglary. He entered a State Fish and Game pickup on the Freeman ranch southeast of Choteau and had fled the state before being captured in Price, Utah. The judge ordered forfeiture of $187.34 from a surety bond to reimburse the county for bringing Ditton back from Utah.

Breen backs county based Senate reapportionment plan

Sen Jerry Breen promotes a plan retaining one senator per county. He argues rural counties gain representation with a spokesman in the Senate, despite narrower voting power. The Teton county senator favors the current system and hopes the Supreme Court revises its stance.

Danny Weist Wins Winter Fair Reserve Champion

Danny Weist of Chateau was Teton county's lone winner at the Montana Winter Fair in Bozeman. He earned reserve champion in the junior futurity competition as the event concluded Friday February 5, marking the fair as the largest and most successful in its 19 year history.

The Choteau High School band held a uniform food sale in Choteau Saturday raising about 125. Mrs. Leo Murphy chaired and reports a meeting for all band parents is set for Monday February 15 at 8 p.m. to discuss uniforms and other fund raising efforts.

G L Banks of Chateau and Joe Eisenman of Fairfield received unanimous Montana Senate confirmation as appointees to state agencies last week. Gov Tim Babcock named Banks to the State Board of Morticians and Eisenman to the Milk Control Board.

Police handled 98 juvenile and 162 adult cases in 1964 per Maurice Black the police chief. Major violations rose from the prior year with 41 juvenile traffic cases 5 burglaries 8 larcenies 7 vandalism 7 liquor violations 9 conduct and 21 curfew violations. Olson nets school scoring mark as Cardinals roll past Centerville

Dutton Cardinals trounced Centerville 93 41 and beat Brady 87 68 to improve to 15 3. Ken Olson scored 49 points to set the school single game record, surpassing 46 by Bill Smith in 1953, while 10 players reached double figures. Annual Rush For Vehicle Licenses Expected In Teton County

Teton County treasurer’s office sees a likely surge in automobile license sales as the deadline nears for 1965 licenses. By Wednesday morning 1836 licenses had been sold, about 400 fewer than last year, with 1688 motorcycle and trailer licenses, 94 large trailers and trailer houses, 156 boat and small trailers. The office will close Friday for Lincoln’s birthday, which may push some purchases to Monday. Police usually begin issuing citations for unlicensed vehicles in February.

The Choteau Soroptimist Club asks area residents to mail contributions to the March of Dimes. Envelopes were mailed to most residents two weeks ago, and this is the only drive effort this year. Donations may be mailed to the Soroptimists to help fight birth defects.
