Captain Jenson Holds Hope Hallberg Is Alive

Captain Jenson believes Lt Hallberg may still be alive after his fighter plane vanished over Europe last August. Parents Louis and Mrs Hallberg were told of the possibility as others recall the missing airman, known as Bud, who was part of a fighter escort.

Father-Daughter Banquet Planned by Girl Scouts

The Junior High Patrol Troop No. 2 will host a father daughter banquet at the Catholic church basement on Tuesday February 13 at 6 30 p m. Miss Joanne Cardell leads the event with Miss Ruth Reiquam as hostess and cook badge recipients among the patrol members. A first aid course by Mrs Larry Banks will follow, leading to badges and Junior Red Cross certificates.

Russell Conklin Returns as Great Falls Business College Owner

Russell Conklin former Scout executive and current owner and principal of the Great Falls Business College called on Chateau last Saturday to renew friendships and handle college business. He organized the Boy Scouts in North Central Montana from 1929 to 1932 and later worked in Boise Wenatchee and Wenatchee Western College of Commerce. He also ran for Washington state representative from Chelan County as a Democrat but narrowly lost.

Legion Posts to Hold County Memorial Service Sunday

The C James Smith Post No 6 Chateau the Freeborn Post Dutton and Fairfield Post of Fairfield American Legion will hold an all county World War II memorial service at 2 p m Sunday Feb 11 in the Teton County High School auditorium. E G Toomey of Helena will give the main address. The event is open to the public. Legionnaires should meet at the Chateau Legion club room at 1 p m for advance instructions.

Public school and theatre lead March of Dimes drive

The Chateau public school donated 33.55 dollars and the high school 9.05, with theatre contributions lifting the total to 75.00 dollars. Boy Scout volunteers aided the Theatre Guild project as funds go to the National Foundation. Half of the county’s March of Dimes money will stay local, with books closing next week. A county report will appear in an upcoming Acantha.

M E Church Mid Year Institute Planned in Choteau

The Methodist church hosts a Mid Year Institute February 9 and 10 at the local church with Youth Fellowship sponsorship. Delegates from district churches attend and District Superintendent Mrs Vandemark will join the program. A banquet is scheduled for Friday the 9th at the Lutheran church parlors.

Defense Group to Hear Miss Robbins Next Monday Evening

The Home Defense Group of the Woman's Club will meet at eight o'clock Monday in the Home Ec rooms at the High School. Miss Juanita Robbins will lead the program on Decorative Objects and Interest Centers in the Home.

Local Boy Wounded in Action in Belgium

Telegram from the War Department informed James Larance that his son, T5 Joe J. Larance, was slightly wounded in Belgium on January 16. The officer is reported to be wounded in the right foot and improving, treated at hospital plant No. 4298, APO 517, care of PM New York. A cheer message will reach him at that address.

Sub-District Tournament Opens Here Next Thursday

Western section of District 10 brings seven teams to Choteau for a February 15 start at 7 30 P M. First round features Fairfield vs Augusta Dutton vs Power Choteau vs Cascade Simms draws a bye to Friday night action with the winner facing Simms. Two Saturday morning consolation games and two Saturday night sessions wrap 10 games. Four top teams advance to the district meet in Great Falls. Ticket pricing covers students and adults with no season passes. Officials are Nick Mariano and Lynn Fortner of Great Falls.

Bertha Becker Dies After Windstorm Injuries

Mrs Bertha Becker 38 wife of Sam Becker ranchman died at Chateau hospital from injuries suffered yesterday afternoon while assisting in feeding cattle at Grover Parker ranch northwest of Pendroy. The couple were struck by a west wind as their hay rack overturned and pinned them. Funeral services planned at St Pauls Lutheran on the Fairfield bench.
