Plans for a special observance of Boy Scout week in Chateau were outlined this week to mark 37 years of scouting in the United States. National Boy Scout official Elmaar H Bakkan will address scouts and interested residents at the grade school Tuesday evening with a 6 30 banquet and an 8 o clock main program.

About 450 people attended John Deere Day at Chateau Monday afternoon. A lunch at the F. G. Curtis and Son Implement Co preceded a 1 to 4 pm cinema showing at the Roxy theater. Cliff Spears, Fred Dahl, and George G. Mill led the program with Deere and Webber Co. representatives from Minneapolis and Great Falls in charge. The feature included Bazooka Bob Bwims and talking animals from the Windjammer.

Road Condition Discussion Slated at Choteau Monday
County commissioners will discuss county road conditions and needed road and bridge improvements with interested residents. The meeting is scheduled next Monday at 10 00 a m in the courtroom at the courthouse in Choteau as part of a series announced in last week's Acanthe edition.

Pat Crossen Pioneer of Teton Laid to Rest on Saturday
Pat Crossen an early Teton County pioneer will be laid to rest in a High Mass of Requiem at St. Joseph's parish in Chateau on Saturday at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Father James J. Sheerin with last rites given in Long Beach before his death. He leaves two sons and a daughter, Pat H. Crossen Jr., Hugh Crossen, and Eleanor Crossen Winters. Pallbearers include Hugh Robinson and J L Billings. Crossen's career spanned cowhand to banker during 50 years in Montana from 1886 arrival from Wisconsin via Bitterroot and Chouteau counties, ranching at Deep Creek Chateau and later ranch ownership and management by family and successors. The obituary notes his diverse ranching ventures and the Crossen family’s long involvement in the area.

Choteau Independents nipped the Dutton Firemen 56 to 55 in a high fouling game at Dutton. Dellno was fouled as time ran out and Boyle missed a tying free throw. LeDesky led Choteau with 16 points. American Legion Sets May Schedule for Independent Basketball
The American Legion at Legion hall plans a May schedule for an independent county tournament with a key meeting at Dutton next Monday to decide venue. If Chateau is not used, another tourney for independent teams may be arranged with participation from Great Falls and other squads. New warm ups jackets ordered for the Chateau team. Three new members welcomed William J. Breen Charles Clough and Richard L. Dale. An audit committee presented a financial report approved by the group. Jerry Breen led the meeting in Commander Ted Halvorson’s absence.

Burglar Suspects Hearing Tomorrow in Wedum’s Burglary
George Tiny Luth and Dennis LaFramboise are set for arraignment Friday morning in district court before Judge R M Hattersley for the November 27 burglary of Wedum's Federated store. Luth has been jailed in Teton county for a month. LaFramboise is free on bail and has been in Great Falls.

Twenty nine home demonstration club officers attended the council meeting at the Methodist church parlors in Chateau on Saturday February 1. Mrs Reece Silva chaired the session and two musical numbers were performed. The meeting introduced the music program Harmony Around the World and discussed club programs. Newly elected officers are Mrs Reece Silva chairwoman Mrs Foh Clark vice chairman and Mrs Leslie Stott secretary. Installations planned for May with Agawam and Bole clubs handling the program.

Teton county crop goals for 1947 in wheat barley oats hay sugar beets and other produce were outlined at the Agricultural Conservation association meeting in the courthouse. Amdy Oja explained government farmer cooperation under the program as a path to better income and soil protection. Goals include 175000 acres wheat and 1200 acres sugar beets with increases in barley flaxseed and mustard while wheat decreases by 15000 acres. Additional remarks covered soil practices and experimental use of Linux B weed control in 1947.
