Parents and relatives of service members are informed that the Acamba will be sent to "our boys" at half price, one dollar per year. This reduced rate is offered as a contribution during Uncle Sam's service.
The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at Mrs. R Vick’s home on February 9 with hostesses Mrs C S McDonald Mrs C D McDonald and Mrs Cecil Pasamore assisting. The meeting will discuss and plan the annual spelling bee.
At a regular council meeting on Monday, members unanimously supported the federal daylight saving time ruling. City employees will move clocks forward to 2 a.m. February 9 to align with official city time. The session also passed an ordinance updating gas piping and fittings installation and maintenance standards.
County defense savings chairman A C Hanusa says pledge blanks for the Defense Bond Pledge drive arrived yesterday and more are expected soon. He urges residents to determine affordable weekly pledges for defense stamps or bonds and be ready when pledge workers call. He notes no one should pledge more than they can afford, but stresses the nation’s defense hinges on broad participation.
Annual get-together for fathers and sons held at the Methodist church next Thursday evening February 12. W G Dauwalder serves as general chairman with an engaging program planned. Tickets are on sale from Dee David Smith John Smith Paul Vick Austin Vick and Billy Daley.
The Acantha is published a day late due to serious mechanical difficulties. The note thanks the Hanson brothers Frank Unit and R. J. Carpenter for their resistance and machinist work on the Great Falls plant aiding the publication.
The Food-for-Victory loan program opens at the local FSA office enabling low income and part time farmers, tenants, and farm workers to borrow up to 500 dollars for one to five years at 5 percent. Loans cover tools seeds fertilizer equipment and canning gear to boost subsistence and market foods while Pearl Harbor spurred national defense food efforts.
Choteau defeated Dutton 43 points led by Rose, but fell to Power 42-16 in a slippery Power gym. Power benefited from a slow Choteau start as both teams prep for Sub-District Tourney. Fort Benton teams up next with one home game afterward.
