Five Teton county youths inducted into peacetime army call

Five young men from Teton County were inducted into the army this week, the first group called for peace-time service from the area since the war. Inductees include David O. Dickhoff Leslie E. Oakley Wilbert Schilling Adolph Nelson and Henry Van Setten of Fairfield and Chateau. Schilling has a 60-day deferment. others were inducted at Butte. Inductions are under the peace-time conscription law for ages 18 to 25. Immediate need for higher county official salaries is noted in a Montana association report.

Doctor Jessie Bierman to Lead U S Health Mission to Germany

Dr. Jessie M. Bierman, pediatrician from San Francisco and former Choteau clinic operator, will be sent by the U S government to study child health conditions in Germany. Since 1937 she has led Montana child and maternal welfare efforts and served as assistant national director for child and maternal welfare for about eight years, with a January departure for a 24 month stay.

New Undersheriff Jo Mozer Jr Joins Teton County

Joe Mozor Jr arrives as the new undersheriff of Teton county succeeding W Earl Hollar. He came from Los Angeles where he worked as an office assistant for Standard Oil and had earlier stints in Ketchikan Alaska and shoe shops in Shelby Great Falls and Boulder City Nevada. He is a Choteau High School alumnus who left town in 192% to run a Shelby shoe shop for 11 years before rejoining Standard Oil.

Chateau's Legion Independent five went 1 win 2 losses last week. They beat Conrad VFW 55 to 12, but lost 57 to 33 to Crane Co Great Falls and 85 to 44 to A Checkers. Dahlin led Legion with 19 points in Conrad win.

Man Tied Up After Gas Shells Used In Custody

Casey Allum, known as Allum of Chateau, was taken before a justice of the peace on a second degree assault charge after police used gas shells to force him from a barricaded east side home. Ranchers Ship 26 Carloads of Heifer Cows

Peters and Hamilton of Chateau ranchers shipped 26 carloads of 923 two year old heifers on the Great Northern to California. Thirteen cars go to Pleasant Valley Farming Co Denali and thirteen to John Zweld and Son Guthrie. The cattle valued over 150000 dollars will winter at Alvesco ranch near the San Joaquin valley. This is the second Montana to California shipment of lady herefords and Alvesco previously bought them near Malta. Peters says a future plan includes sprayed matrons with hybrid California steers in Teton county next season.
