Blood donors are urged to give Tuesday January 3 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Chateau pavilion. Mrs. Grant Curtis, blood program chairman, notes the quota rose to 75 pints and urges regular donors to return while Rainbow Girls provide babysitting. Hospital demand remains high due to accidents and surgeries. attend to help save lives.
John McTaggart donated 5000 dollars to the Choteau Lions Club swimming pool bath house fund. The gift will be paid as 1000 dollars annually for five years, supporting matching funds for a government grant. Lions President Ray Anderson announced the gift during a club meeting with Carl Field.
Kiwanis announces winners of the Christmas decoration contest. Best decorated homes go to J C Salmond and Ray Weist, best decorated business to KOA Rampground and Cornell Hotel, and best energy conserving decor to Norma's Fabric Shop. Each winner receives a $10 award from the Chateau Kiwanis Club with plans to repeat next year.
Mrs. Porter S. Cannon was named the Montana winner of the Great Quilt contest sponsored by Good Housekeeping. Her quilt will enter national competition and tour the country with 50 others for a Smithsonian Museum program. She received Patriot Plates and a silver medal. The winning quilts photo will appear in the March 1978 Good Housekeeping.
Most Chateau stores will be closed Monday January 2 following New Year’s Day which falls on a Sunday. The observance makes Monday a legal holiday so many businesses and offices close.
About 55 athletes from Choteau, Conrad and Great Falls will ski at Teton Pass Ski Area northwest of Choteau on Saturday January 14. U.S. Gold Medalist Billy Kidd of Steamboat Springs will lead instruction from 10 a.m. to noon and assist in sprint, loop, downhill, and slalom races with awards for winners. Large crowds have enjoyed excellent snow and planned activities accompany Kidd’s visit attracting ski enthusiasts from across Montana.
State Fish and Game Director Robert Wambach will keynote Jaycee Bosses Night on January 19 in Chateau. Rod Luinstra says the talk will inspire. dinner starts at 6 30 p.m. with awards to local leaders. Tickets are $3 50 from Luinstra or any Jaycee member.
A special alumni wrestling day is set in the Chateau High School gym on Friday December 30 at 1 pm. The event is open to all former wrestlers from area schools with no weight classes and no entry fee. Spectators welcome through the northwest gym entrance.
The United Methodist Women will meet January 4 at 2 pm in the United Methodist Church for installation of 1978 officers led by Mrs. Ed Schilling, Yellowstone UMW Conference officer. Officers include Mrs. Ken Depner president and other listed positions. past presidents will be honored. A fellowship tea follows. all church women invited.
The Montana Taxpayers Association reports $158.6 million in federal revenue sharing through 1978 to counties cities and towns and Indian Councils. For 1977 payouts total $18.2 million with $23.7 million expected in 1978. Montana state government has received $44.9 million through 1977 and will get $7.9 million in 1978.
