Malignant edema outbreak noted in Montana cattle

County Extension Agent Raymond Kelly reports malignant edema among cattle in Teton county with losses at several farms including Art Gebhart Bynum and the Stotts of Bynum. State veterinarian W J Butler recommends a combination vaccine from Franklin and Cutter labs to protect against both malignant edema and blackleg.

Hospital Benefit Turkey Shoot At Chateau VFW

The Chateau Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsors a second turkey shoot this Sunday Dec 22 at noon on the golf course hill near the club house to aid the Teton Memorial Hospital association. Dr H W Bateman donates all turkeys. shooters must bring shotguns and shells. Events include trap shooting and 22 targets with two traps.

Christmas Carolers to Sing in City Next Monday Night

The combined choirs of the Methodist and Lutheran churches will sing carols around Chateau next Monday Dec. 23 starting 8:30 PM. About 60 carolers will visit homes and public spots. services are free with notices to pastors. Afterward refreshments will be served at Trinity Lutheran church parlors.

Merle Smith Jr Dies in California City

Merle Smith Jr son of Mr and Mrs Merle D Smith formerly of Chateau died in Los Angeles recently. He was a senior at Occidental College Los Angeles and funeral services were held at Chimes Chapel Piedmont California.

Christmas Acantha Issue Schedule Changed

The Christmas Chateau Acantha will publish and distribute next Tuesday December 24 with a dateline Thursday December 26. Christmas and New Year editions will come out on Tuesdays, two days earlier to allow staff Christmas and New Year vacations. Correspondents are asked to mail news two days earlier for the next two weeks.

Water and Sewage bonds sold to local bank

City bonds valued at 108000 were sold to Citizens State Bank of Chateau after a special council meeting. Two bidders Piper Jaffray Hopwood of Minneapolis and the Chateau bank offered to take the bonds at 2 percent interest. The city favored the local bank for a greater saving and possible early payoff within 20 years if water department revenues rise.

Choteau Bulldogs toppled Conrad Cowboys 26 to 23 in a hard fought game led by Jackson's 10 point effort. Hinman and Christenson were limited by early foul trouble while Dahlin sealed the win with a late field goal as the teams prepare for a Friday showdown versus Cut Bank.

Women's Club Holds Regular Meeting at School

Chateau Woman's club met in the grade school auditorium Tuesday night conducting routine business. Several new membership applications were approved. The board recommended no disposal of club property for now. Reports covered Home Defense meeting, a Christmas party by Music and Literature group, and a tour of school rooms with festive lighting.

Christmas Show for Cho teau Kids at Royal Theater

The Royal theater in Choteau with the American Legion posts hosts a pre Christmas fun afternoon next Tuesday at 2 p.m. for all grade school kids 12 and under. Bert I. Packer leads with Legion volunteers assisting as Santa Claus attends. About 250 children will receive free candy nuts and oranges. Dutton Team to Play Local Independents On Choteau Floor

The Choteau Independent squad hosts the undefeated Dutton Independents in a key league clash at Choteau high school gym. Dutton recently edged Fairfield 48 to 46, and previously challenged Choteau in last year’s league final. The Choteau manager plans to book several Great Falls teams in upcoming Christmas vacation Friday games.
