James Barnes aged 45, longtime Choteau area resident, shot himself in Neihart with an army rifle, amid fears of eyesight loss. He previously ran a lumber yard at Agawam and a ranch near Bole, leaving a widow and four children. Funeral services set for Choteau with Rev. Robert B. Culbertson officiating.

A Montana float titled lonesome Camp won second place in the third annual Long Beach Carnival of States. The Oregon float took first with a covered wagon motif. The Chateau Rod and Gun Club placed third in a statewide predator eradication contest with 22 194 points earning a $75 prize. Big Timber Sportsmen won $250 for first with 74 067 points while Beaverhead Sportsmen's Association Dillon earned $100 for second with 37 163 points. The event, held last spring, rewarded points for predatory mammals birds and their eggs. Samuel Gompers, longtime leader of the American Federation of Labor, died Saturday in a Texas hotel hours after arriving from Mexico City. He spoke his last words to a nurse, blessing American institutions, and was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, N Y.

Wind Roaring Through Teton County Splits Roofs and Bins
Sunday winds battered the region as H. G. Ward and Floyd Clark halted their Ford to secure Lizzie the wagon to a fence post. They sheltered at Yeager ranch house for three hours as a barn roof and a Red McGillis house roof were torn free. A subsequent blast near Chateau uprooted power poles and damaged outbuildings, haystacks, and windows across the county.

The supervisor reports 6914 cattle and horses and 21567 sheep grazed on the Lewis and Clark Forest in summer 1924 with a capacity of 7595 cattle and horses and 26250 sheep. One hundred fifty three cattle were free, $4781 earned from others. 969240 acres show 297382 stock land, 358249 game land, 294277 barren, 8162 alienated, 1170 recreational. Five stock associations coordinate permittees, with 479 native range plant specimens filed in the Chateau office.
