George E. Rossmiller of Dutton earned a doctoral degree in agricultural economics as part of Michigan State University’s December quarter commencement exercises. He was among 1,173 degree recipients.

Post Office Hours Extended for Christmas Rush Saturday

Postmaster C G Monkman announced extended hours at The Chateau Post from 8 30 a m to 5 p m on Saturday December 18 to handle the Christmas mailing rush. He noted peak mailing this week with growth in gifts cards and letters and advised air mail and special delivery for out of town mail to ensure timely delivery despite weather delays. Holiday schedules also apply December 25 and 26 with only special or perishable mail on Christmas day.

Weintz Defends Sun River Elk Quota Stance

Robert H. Weintz District 3 Fish and Game Commission explains his position on the Area 42 elk and deer hunting seasons near Sun River in a letter to the Great Falls Tribune. He says the 400 elk quota was set over his dissent and he would back it, though he favored 300 and warned opening the season to meet the quota.

Firemen's Ball Moves to Masonic Hall for New Year’s Eve

Ex-Choteau Pastor Dies While Hunting

Rev Harold Engdahl, former Choteau Methodist pastor 1946 52, died of a heart attack on a hunting trip in California. Survivors include his widow a daughter Claudia two sons Lynn Dennis and two sisters Mrs Harmison and Mrs Miller. Memorial fund planned at the Choteau Methodist Church with contributions to Irene McManus in Cha teau. The family now lives in On Walton Ave Ub a City Calif.

Banis Tops CHS Scoring For Chateau High Bulldogs

LeRoy Banis leads the Chateau High School Bulldogs with a 15.6 point average over six games and 10 rebounds per game. Christmas Concerts Planned Across Schools

School officials announced December 19 to 22 will feature annual Christmas programs. The high school concert opens December 19 at 1:30 PM in the auditorium under music director Lloyd Reynolds, with performances by the Capella choir and mixed concert choir. The Choteau school board will meet today to set up a 10 or 12 member citizens committee to liaise between the board and the public on plans for a new high school. Architects met with the board last week and presented three schematic layouts for fitting a new structure in the construction area. no firm plans exist yet as details of school features are still being worked out.

Final Rites Held for Hubert J. Moon

Funeral rites for Hubert J. Moon 75 were held yesterday at St Joseph's Church Choteau with Rev. William Morley officiating. Burial followed in Choteau cemetery. Banks Funeral Home was in charge. Moon born February 7 1890 in New Munich Minnesota came to Montana in 1915 and to Choteau in 1962. Former Choteau Resident Martine Dies in Portland

Former Choteau resident Mrs. Isaac Martine died December 5 in Portland. Funeral services were held December 8 with Rev. Walter Knutsen officiating and burial in Riverview Cemetery. The Martine family lived in Choteau from 1913 to 1924. Martine served as sheriff for a period. Survivors include two sons Howard and James L, three daughters Lucille Sherman Myrtle Cappa and Gladys Reeves, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

CHS Students Excel In ACT Test Results

CHS students at Choteau High School place high in the ACT exam with 21 of 33 in the top 10 percent in science and 16 in English. Most students had only one year of social studies prior to testing, counselor Charles Peck said.
