William Morton Dies In Sunday Car Mishap
William A Morton 19 of Great Falls died early Sunday when he fell from a moving car and struck a guard rail on Riceville Hill along Highway 89, 11 miles south of Armington. He was a passenger driven by Raymond Raaf Jr. of Great Falls. Morton attended Choteau schools, lived with his brother Thomas, and worked for Great Falls Drug Co. He had joined the army medical corps and is survived by his mother Mrs Jennie Morton and sister Alice. Funeral services were held at George Co chapel with burial in Highland cemetery. Morton's death was the state’s 206th traffic fatality this year.

Choteau Independents dropped three consecutive league games amid injuries and a missing player on business travel. County Brucellosis Control Area Petitions Near Final Tabulation
The county brucellosis control committee reports the minimum requirements for declaring Teton County an official brucellosis control area have been met based on a preliminary tabulation to December. Signups have exceeded 75 percent of cattle owners representing 50 percent or more of cattle, though many nearly signed petitions remain with community committeemen and were not included. The committee asks all holders of brucellosis petitions to submit them to the county agent so a final tabulation can be completed.

Choteau approves $70,000 lagoon bond bid by Citizens State Bank
The Citizens State Bank of Choteau won the lagoon bond bid opening on December 8 with 2 percent and a $500 bid from Fred Barribal. The $70,000 ten year issue finances a sewage lagoon on state land south of the city and a trunk sewer line. Ted Hodges for Piper, Jaffray and Hopwood submitted a competing 2 percent bid plus $500. State Land Board opened with 3 percent. The plan follows a November 2 voter approval by 347 to 8 after a September 10 failure.

Yale Trinity Lutheran Choir Christmas Concert
A large crowd attended the Trinity Lutheran Church Christmas concert last Sunday. The program featured the complete choir performing carols such as How Far Is It to Bethlehem Away In a Manger and Holy Night led by Rev A Bernard Grandal with Mrs A B Grandal as soloist. The ladies chorus sang Merry Christmas Time and No Candle Was There and No Fire while Mrs Bernard Stelling and Mrs Victor Sargent contributed solos with piano accompaniment by Mrs Gravdal. The men’s quartet led by Rev Gravdal included Christmas and Adeste Fideles, and the men’s chorus performed In a Manger Gently Lay Song of the Crib and Go Tell It On the Mountain with soloists Chester Potusak Ruth Wells and Robert Gronberg. Mrs Carl Wedum directed the choir with Miss Joan Richem at the organ.

The Chateau high school chorus rehearses double practice for a Christmas Concert next Tuesday December 21 at 3 00 pm. That’s a Lot of Water Chateau Folks Miss Record Downpour
Mr and Mrs Al Hensley and child returned Sunday from a two month motor trip to the east and south. They spent weeks in Florida and just missed the Key West rain record by a day as 20 hours 19.9 inches fell there. The family toured Washington DC Florida and Gulf Coast locations and enjoyed good weather overall.

Lions Program Features Choir Tuesday Night

Jack Broders Dies, Oil Co. Official in Montana
Jacob Jack Broders 77 retired district manager for Phillips Petroleum Co. died December 11 from a heart ailment. Born in Germany June 9 he emigrated to the United States and settled in Ohio City Iowa before moving to Montana in 1908. He served in various oil company posts, retiring in 1949 as district superintendent for Phillips Petroleum in Tulsa. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church in Choteau with burial in the local cemetery and out of town relatives attending.

School Board authorizes sale of old grade school building
The School Board of District No 1 in Teton county passed a resolution at the regular meeting in the high school declaring the old grade school building abandoned obsolete undesireable and unsuited for district use. The entire Block 8 Chateau Original Townsite property and the school building may be offered for sale under law with proceeds to fund an addition to the present elementary school.

Horace H. Bleecker 68 of Great Falls died suddenly at home. Funeral pending. Born in New Jersey he was a carpenter who worked in Choteau and Fairfield before moving to Great Falls 13 years ago. Survived by six sons Jess George Hughie Harry Clarence Ralph and two daughters Mrs. Shirley Bass and Mrs. Hazel Lael.

U S Forest Ranger Jack Hinman announced the Chateau office of the Forest Service will relocate from the Phillips Petroleum Co building on Main Avenue to the Larson building effective December 15. No storage plans are fixed yet, with equipment moved to Har Mountain Ranger station for winter storage. He believes a warehouse will be built here.

Teton County Farmer Union Meets in Pendray Saturday
A well attended meeting of the Teton county Farmer Union was held at Pendray with Sheridan Erickson presiding. Delegates to the Farmers Union school at Great Falls January 9 to 16 were elected and locals will elect delegates at regular meetings. Miss Margaret Bucher announced the school begins January 10 with a workshop January 9 for county and local officers, featuring educators from Montana and Chicago universities.
