Tax Association Man Discusses High Taxes Before Legion

R A Neill executive secretary of the Montana Taxpayers Association told the James Smith Post American Legion that taxes in the state and nation are very high. He said a taxpayers inventory shows taxes consume 27 percent of productivity and that about 75 percent of taxes are imposed by the federal government. He cited McCulloch versus Maryland to argue the power to tax equals the power to destroy. Continued on Page

Bulldogs Sweep Anaconda Central In Close 55-54 Victory

The Choteau Bulldogs edged Anaconda Central 55-54 after leading 18-16 at first stop and 30-31 at halftime. Jim Lohse scored 18 with 16 in the second half, Carl Olson 17, while Furshong led Anaconda with 16.

Chateau High School Christmas Concert Set for December

The Chateau high school music department directed by Chester Potuzak presents its annual Christmas concert in the auditorium on December 21 at 8 pm. The program features a selection of choral pieces and arrangements including Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Winter Wonderland, A Merry Christmas, Christmas March, Lullaby Jesu, and No Candle Was There. Admission is free with a collection for summer music camp scholarships.

Hinman death linked to fall on Hawaii trail

Frank G. Hinman, 48, a University of Hawaii entomologist, died after plunging 150 feet from a rocky crag in Kahana Valley while hiking with a 40 member party. His body was found draped over a guava tree and death was reported as head injuries. His brother Jack Hinman and others traveled to Hawaii for the funeral, with burial at Punchbowl. Also listed are elected Community Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committeemen across multiple communities, effective Jan. 1, chosen by farmers and ranchers in elections ending Dec. 5, with specifics by locality.

Christmas Program Schedule at Chateau Grades

Principal Robert Gormley announced the Chateau grade school will hold Christmas programs for grades 1 through 8 at 2 30 pm Wednesday in the night school auditorium. The event, largely musical, involves 400 students with Mrs Eggage directing grades 1-6 vocal music and Jumak guiding grades 7-8 choral numbers and the school band. Kindergarten programs occur Thursday at 10 45 and 1 20.

Choir Christmas Concert at Trinity Lutheran Church

A Christmas program at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday December 18 at 8 p.m. features the Inner Choir with soprano Hinman Joyce Curtis Valerie Larson and others performing carols such as In a Manger and It Came Upon the Midnight Clear. A well attended Teton county Women s Republican club meeting was held at the courthouse in Chateau on Saturday. The first invitational basketball tourney in the new Choteau high school gym pits Valier, Conrad, Fairfield and Chateau teams for the trophy. Bob Bean Installed Master Councillor of DeMolay Chapter

Bob Bean son of Mr and Mrs Wallace Bean of Augusta was installed as master councillor of Teton Chapter Order of DeMolay Monday night at the Masonic Temple. Installing officer was Charles Averill assisted by George Higgins as marshal and Chalmers as senior council. Association Sets Show and Sale Dates for 1956

North Montana Hereford Breeders Association board met in Great Falls and set spring show and sale dates for March 8 and 9 at the North Montana Fairgrounds. Fifty three bulls are allocated for the sale. Entries require registered certificates, tabulated pedigree, and signed transfers by January 1.
