Hailstorm devastates mustard and wheat across northern Montana

A westward moving hailstorm last Friday damaged mustard and wheat crops from southwestern Teton through Pondera and into Culbertson, with losses ranging 20 to 70 percent in Agawam Farmington Collins and surrounding areas. Several residents including O G Meadows Frank Zion Alois Dickhans Henry Freeman and Paul Parker reported about 20 percent crop losses. Insurance claims totaled 70 in Pendroy area as damage spread north and east toward Conrad and beyond.

Air tour planes to land at Choteau Sept 7 amid preparations

Choteau hosts a 100 plane armada as committees arrange airport services meals and transportation for flyers. The Montana pilots association tour spans Sept 6 to 9 with 19 Montana stops. specials include C-47s and Johnson Flying Service seats at 50 dollars for full tour or 10 dollars per day.

4 H Contests Set Tomorrow At Grade School

4 H members finishing up economics projects prepare for elimination judging demonstrations and style revue tomorrow at the grade school lunch room. Friday events include judging demonstrations and dress modeling with blue red and white ribbon awards and state contest advancement. Saddle Club Returns From Mountain Trip

Nine members of the Teton Saddle club concluded a two weeks outing in Lewis and Clark National forest. They reported beautiful scenery deer elk and bear plus good fisting. They faced heavy rain and met a lost pack party with nine remaining crackers for breakfast. The group escorted the party to the Anderson ranch in Deep Creek Colorado. Vets May Cash Leave Bonds Early Next Week

The Citizens State bank of Chateau is authorized by the United States Treasury to cash Armed Forces Leave bonds for registered owners anytime after Sept. 1, 1947. Bonds may be cashed any time in the future upon demand and without delay. Veterans are urged to let bonds earn 2 percent interest until actually needed.

Methodist Youth Wins Award For Achievement

The Choteau Methodist Youth Fellowship received a unique gift at the state MYF convocation held at the Flathead Lake camp grounds. The carved candle holder from Oslo Norway was presented by Nellie Harvey of Kalispell who recently returned from a world youth conference there. Local attendees included Joanne Coardell and Keith McFarlane, with Sunny Slope Fellowship members Lois Liggett and Norman Ginther. Reverend Engdahl and wife also attended.

A city golf tournament is planned for September 7 open to all golfers including non members of Chateau Country club. Dr John A March said entrants must submit qualifying 18 hole rounds before September 7 with matches arranged. rounds may be completed from now through the first week of September.

Marvin Reeves of Dutton topped 88 of 100 clay pigeons at the local trap grounds Sunday in the first qualifying round.
