Commissioners Fix 1928 Tax Levies at Special Meeting
County commissioners set the 1928 tax levies totaling 37.333 mills against all property outside Choteau city limits. City residents pay an additional 27 mills, one more than in 1927. A detailed levy table was approved at the annual special meeting.

Keene Taylor 41 of Boulder died when his truck overturned twice on a sandy curve near Boulder at 6 15 pm Monday. Three companions Nick La Comb Fred Dell and Ed Maxwell were injured. They were returning from F H Knowles ranch when the accident occurred. Mrs Darbey planned to reach Boulder with her husband as far as Wolf Creek by auto.

Pondera Field Reaches Twelve Producing Wells
The Pondera field now lists twelve producing wells after a late last week Rice State well brought total production to 12. Fourteen rigs were active with 11 drilling. Gjullin No 4 and Wheeler No 1 were in various stages, while Montana Oil Journal cites initial production from multiple wells, and Archer Freeborn No 1 in Bannatyne adds commercial output of about 765 barrels daily after a nitro shot.

Fire destroys two cars and warehouse at Hannan Gulch
Fire at Hannan Gulch ranger station on Sun River destroyed the warehouse and its contents along with two automobiles parked nearby. A third car sustained heavy damage. Total loss estimated about 3000 dollars. buildings and goods valued around 350 dollars. Fire likely started from an unextinguished cigarette.

Scouts To Leave For Teton Camp Next Monday

Fines Amounted to 67.50 in City Police Court
City coffers gained 67.50 from fines handed by Police Judge J. E. Dellaas for traffic violations. Most offenses were Sunday infractions including speeding and improper left turns with no signal. Local Man Arrested By Federal Officer at Arcade Pool Hall
Gordon Tryon, employed by Bedner and Hamilton, was arrested Monday evening by federal officer FE H Donovan at the Arcade pool hall. A quantity of Canadian beer was found in gunny sacks and Tryon posted $300 bail to await federal court. Donovan claimed the beer was part of a truck load moved across the line with several sales points traced.

C W Smith of Newberg Oregon and family toured Choteau camping in the city park after rain. Smith, a noted walnut grower, shared walnuts with locals and explained trees take eight years to bear and fruit for 50 years or more. He noted Dundee Oregon operates a large walnut packing plant and prices range from 15 to 35 cents by grade and size.
