Jaycees sponsor annual Huck Finn Day in Choteau park this Sunday. Children 12 and under can join in fishing from 8 to 11 a.m. and later foot and sack races, a costume contest, and a greased pig catch. Awards, prizes, and a pig prize add to the event.
Funeral services were held Monday August 2 at the Choteau United Methodist Church for Gene Gayton Armstrong 67 who died Thursday July 29 in a Great Falls hospital Rev Rae Ginther officiated burial followed in Choteau Cemetery Banks Funeral Home directed Pallbearers were Dr Bill Patton Vince Peters Roland Peters Louie Carroll Barney Maltby and Jim Denison Honorary pallbearers were John McTaggert Dick Greig Dr George Sexton Hilary Gollehon Pete Walley and Elmer Erickson Armstrong born December 12 1908 at Conrad lived in the Walier and Chateau areas all his life He married Ollive Helen Carroll in Great Falls May 20 1935 Survivors include the widow children Carol Ireton of Ogden Utah and Dr Gary Armstrong of Kamloops BC three grandchildren a brother Herbert Armstrong of Chateau and sisters Candace Ness of Great Falls and Cleo Cox of Geyser.
Donald LaBaugh of Chateau won first prize in the amateur black and white photography division at the State Fair in Great Falls. His winning image portrayed Ora Knowlton, a rancher from the Bynum area, with the contest sponsored by the Great Falls Camera Club.
The annual Choteau Invitational Golf Tournament will be held at the Choteau Country Club this Sunday August 8 with a 10 a.m. tee off. Golfers from Conrad Great Falls Shelby Fairfield and Choteau are expected in both men’s and women’s divisions. Defending champions Chuck and Dolores McDonald of Conrad are expected to defend their titles.
Ike Denison 74 died Tuesday August 3 of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services set for Friday August 6 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church conducted by Rev Rae Ginther. Burial in Chateau Cemetery with Zwerneman Mortuary handling arrangements. Full obituary to follow next week.
First aid instructor Robert Armstrong announced a Standard First Aid Multi media course beginning August 17. The program runs three sessions August 17 19 and 26 at 7 p.m. in the Chateau Library meeting room. The course targets school bus drivers but is open to all interested participants.
The Chateau Baptist Church will run its annual Daily Vacation Bible School from August 9 to August 18, 9 to 11:30 each morning. Children ages 3 through junior high are welcome. The closing program is Friday at 8 p.m. for all children, parents and friends.
The County Government Commission filed its final proposal with the County Clerk and plans to mail the complete report to every family in Teton County. It calls for a five member board elected from five districts, confirms department heads, and holds the election with the general vote on November 2.
The Teton County Ambulance Service for July 1975 to June 1976 logged 216 runs tackling cardiac issues, MVCs, fractures, diabetes and transfers. Choteau and surrounding towns offer 24/7 EMS with 3 EMTs per crew, rapid dispatch, ongoing training, CPR and first aid courses, and area director changes this summer.
Cascade County fugitives Daniel Thomas and Claudia Burke, both held on California warrants, were caught in Augusta after Sheriff Pete Howard Highway Patrolman Roger Kelly and D. Brent Mitchell assisted. Burke was seized at Allen's Manix store. Thomas surrendered in Ernest Rowley's Augusta hotel room amid a knife threat.
The Choteau Lions Club swim team defended its divisional title at the 1976 Divisional Championships, leading the Western Division in relays and events with 444 points to Columbia Falls 309. Fort Benton 251 and Whitefish 239 chased, while Malta and Roundup led Central Division.
Red Cross Blood mobile will visit Chateau on Monday August 9 from 2 to 6 p.m. with a goal of 75 pints. Donors aged 17 to 65 weighing at least 110 pounds may give, with 17–18 needing parental consent. The drive supports MARCBEC hospitals and highlights modern blood components and transfusion needs. Rainbow Girls will babysit children during the event.
