Amid intraparty tension between regulars and insurgents the Ohio Republican State Convention reported a compromise. John G. Carlisle, former speaker and secretary of the treasury, died in New York of heart failure on July 31.
A board of army engineers will visit Montana around August 21 to advise on spending a $20 million irrigation appropriation obtained largely through Senator Thomas K. Carter. Sun River and Milk River St Marys projects await funding as communities press for speedy completion. President Taft will allocate funds per the engineers' guidance, boosting Montana’s irrigation efforts.
Fancy shooting by J. R. Bevis of Remington Arms Co and Union Metallic Cartridge Co captured crowds Sunday and Monday. He showcased accuracy with Remington auto loading rifles and UMC cartridges. Bevis, famed pistol shot, retrieves coins and cartridge shells with pistols while firing high power rifle and pistol in one performance.
The court of Judge Ewing granted final citizenship papers to Adbert J Bowler Pat Conrad Hansop Parmington John Bence and Ernest Priedlander Chutewu.
Wendling, blamed for the Louisville case, has been captured in San Francisco after four months eluded police. The report notes the suspect’s long pursuit and the dramatic arrest aboard a moving investigation.

The Valier First Methodist Episcopal church will be dedicated Sunday with Rev Robert Forbes and Rev J A Alford among the guests. A program at 10 30 a m 2 30 and 7 30 p m invites all to attend and stay for a halleluiah time led by pastor Rev G B Hutt.
Fairfield Frank Harris and George Harris visited Great Falls this week. Chas Davis's wife visited Choteau on Thursday. Heurs Radcliffe and his son Joe traveled to Choteau Friday. P J Cole and County Superintendent Anderson were business visitors on the beach. Cook returned from Musseashell country Pridas on business. Chas Justice moved his family to Chateau Thursday. John Lanewald was a Great Falls visitor this week.
Mrs H E Belcher visits Great Falls this week. Miss Ingal Peterson from Chateau visits the area. Miss Della Humble stays with Miss Alma Zimerman at Pairfield. Mrs Monkman entertains about twenty friends at dinner Saturday. Mrs R T L Stonehouse departs Sunday for Washington. Miss Lila Armstrong from Chateau visits Chas Monkman at his home.
Shatcrops are fairly good in spite of the drought and proof came when T O Olsen showed a wheat sheaf from his Fairfield area ranch. The stems reach two and a half feet and heads are large and well filled. Olsen planned chicken feed but neighbors urged a different use. The crop is turning and moisture around the roots suggests a yield as good as eastern and middle western farms.
The next regular examination of applicants for teachers certificates will be held at the court house in Choteau and the public school buildings in Dupuyer and Conrad on Friday August 26 and continuing the following day Frances M Anderson County Superintendent of Schools Montana 1910
Montana farmers are urged to summer fallow fields where germination failed or was partial to preserve soil moisture for spring crops. If moisture is insufficient for germination, defer fall sowing and treat the land with shallow cultivation and pulverization to reduce moisture loss. Winter wheat or rye should be sowed by early September at limited rates, with careful drilling and deep burial of seed.

Rev. B. Wachsmuth of Great Palle will conduct services at the Farmington German Lutheran Church on Sunday morning. A special feature will be the singing of a choir. The services will be in German and a cordial invitation is extended to all.
A public meeting will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm in Hlodgskiss hall to arrange entertainment for army officers and evermeers visiting the Sun Liver project on Aug 22. All are invited and arrangements must be completed promptly.
David High, aged man known locally, died Monday morning at the county poor farm after a period of illness. Despite care from the county physician and attendants, his health failed. He had a claim in Elizabeth country but had not lived on the land recently, instead working as a sheep herder. The body was buried at the county farm burial ground.
Mine Host Hodgskiss and his wife celebrate twenty years of Hodgskiss management and twenty-one years of Mrs Hodgskiss connection with the Chateau House. The couple formed a life partnership to run the hotel and have built a valued local institution with many friends wishing continued success and happiness.

Postmaster Cooney at Great Falls filed Montana’s initial bid for a savings bank designation on July 29. Ex Senator W A Clark toured Montana recently focusing on Missoula where he helped build a city railway system. Miss Minnie Thomas was killed and Charles Walters injured when Walters’ car was hit by a Milwaukee streetcar between Butte and Anaconda on July 28.
In Choteau Montana on July 29 1910 local volunteers rushed to the west fork of the Teton after a large forest fire crossed the range. News was sent to forest rangers and within a day a crew of 19 led by Chas LaBreche and Jack Nesbit secured the fire preventing destruction of timber and the main water source. The original party included W. J. Dorniscron John Zummean PL Racrasy Wet Harts Aon Ratsros.
