City awards contracts for new pump unit and sewer extension

The city council awarded contracts to furnish and install a new pump and motor for the Chateau Water department at the municipal pumping station. A sanitary sewer extension contract was also let for Special Improvement District No. 23.

Present for Catholic Deanery Meet in Choteau

The Kalispell Deanery No. 2 of the National Council of Catholic Women held a spring meeting with a luncheon at St. Joseph's church hall Choteau. About 110 registered though weather kept many from attending. 140 lunches served. Officers elected: Mary Beaudry president Charles Willard Augusta Norbert Majerus Valier J Phillips Sweet Grass treasurer. A talk by Mrs. Hugh Campbell highlighted the gathering.

Rummage Sale for Hospital Starts Friday

The Choteau Soroptimist club hosts a fourth rummage sale Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in the Legion hall Choteau. Items include clothing furniture household goods and bric a brac all usable with cleaned clothing and minor repairs. Proceeds aid Teton Memorial hospital funding incubators nursery furniture and church gifts.

Crippled Children Clinic Set for Great Falls Next Week

The Montana state board of health division of services for crippled children will hold a case finding clinic at the Civic Center in Great Falls on May 2 and 3. G D Carlyle Thompson announced the spring clinic serves Teton Cascade and South Chouteau counties with free diagnostic service for under 21s. Children from Teton county should report at 10 am May 3 for examinations. physicians may refer patients to an orthopedic surgeon at the clinic.

Clothes Wanted for Korea Donation Drive Urgent

Donors are urged to phone 4459 to contact Mrs. Robert Hamilton and donate new or used clothing. Local pickup will be arranged. The appeal notes favorable responses last week but stresses a continued need for garments.

Leo Murphy Named Candidate for Lions District Governor

Leo Murphy secretary of the Choteau Lions club and zone chairman was named candidate for district governor of Lions International district 370 at the Choteau Lions club meeting. The club supports Murphy’s candidacy for the Calgary district convention May 16 17 and 18. Freeman Daley of Cut Bank is another possible candidate. Delegates from clubs in Montana and Alberta will vote at the Calgary convention.

Clarence Foss Takes Over Local Auto Body Shop

Clarence Foss formerly of Malta assumed operation of the Schuchard Auto Body shop next to Holt Chevrolet Co. under the name C. P. Foss Auto Body Works. A World War II veteran, Foss served from 1939 to 1945 with overseas duties in the Pacific. He previously ran the Flaxville garage and was foreman for the Malta Motor Co. Ford dealer. He is married with a one year old daughter and resides in Jack Broder's cabin on the north side.

Guttrom Odden Dies After Long Illness In Montana

Guttrom Odden died at Falls Hospital in Great Falls Monday after an extended illness. Funeral was held at Dutton Lutheran church with Rev. A B Graydal presiding and burial in Dutton cemetery. Born February 27 1860 in Minnesota he moved to Montana in 1910 and lived in Dutton. Frank Healy Dies in New York Auto Crash

Frank Healy aged about 23 from New York City and son of the late Rev. Leon Healy of Choteau was killed in an auto accident in New York last Friday. Services were held Monday at Madrid New York. Healy had visited Kaare Larson at Choteau in recent summers and had many friends in the Chateau region. He reportedly graduated from Harvard at 72 years old and could speak five languages. He was employed by a Wall Street brokerage firm.
