City Council Eyes Oil Street Prep in Conrad Project
Monday night council discussed oiling Chateau streets with City Engineer Stanley Thil and Monte Smith of Hall-Perry Machinery Co. They plan bids for a distributor and a roller, consider skipping a storage tank, and prep streets for oiling with local assistance and careful bids. Fairfield Farmer H. C. Brown Dies at 68
H C Brown a Fairfield farmer aged 68 died Tuesday afternoon at the local hospital. Born May 16 1885 in Missouri he homesteaded in Winnett then moved to Fairfield Beach in 1937. Survived by widow five sons Lester Wesley H C Brown Jr Alvin Edna Lée and Elsie Graves two sisters and five brothers with 11 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements pending.

Fire at Cornell Hotel extinguished by prompt action
A mattress fire at the Cornell Hotel around 5 a.m. Sunday caused about 150 dollars in damage. Si Schoonmaker and Don O'Brien warned the owner, woke the occupant, and helped douse the smoldering mattress before the fire department arrived, with Easter praise for the quick response.

Standard Oil Contract For Local Super Service Station

Driver Goes to Sleep Injuring Wie in Augusta Area Crash
Mr and Mrs Pat C Mills Jr of Chateau were in an early Saturday crash 61 miles south of Augusta. Mills slept at the wheel and the 1954 Bel Air left the road tipping over twice. Mrs Mills suffered a broken left thigh and other injuries. Mills had minor cuts. Wallet with 120 dollars lost. three cars passed. one with a lone occupant likely took it. Mills charged with reckless driving and cited to appear in Augusta court.

MP's Pickup AWOL Soldier Returned to Base
Two MPs from the Great Falls East base collected AWOL soldier Thomas Robinson in Cheteau on Tuesday. He had been in county jail since April 9 after Highway Patrolman Henry Helf stopped him on a fictitious license plate charge. Robinson was driving a 1941 Chrysler with 1953 Henry J plates and 1964 dealer tabs, and was returned to Great Falls that day.
