Yeager Wins 300 At Bozeman FFA Leadership Banquet
Chateau High School senior Ray Yeager received 300 dollars from the National FFA Foundation at the Bozeman leadership conference banquet. He earned a 200 dollar State Farmer award for a strong supervised farming program and leadership plus a 100 dollar Star Beef Farmer award for top beef projects. Yeager, who has 69 Angus cows in partnership with his brother, serves as Chateau FFA member in multiple roles and participates in football and track.

Red Cross Drive Hits 80 Percent of 1962 Goal
The Teton County Red Cross fund drive closed last week with 80 percent of a $2,692 quota realized. Returns from Fairfield and Dutton were expected to lift totals while final Choteau area reports were not yet filed. Officials said results were better than last year and hoped the quota would be filled this year.

Road Near Choteau To be Surfaced Soon
Contracts will be awarded Wednesday April 25 for 5.9 miles of surfacing on the Choteau Farmington road. Surfacing will start at the highway junction one mile east of Choteau and extend north for about six miles. Bids will be opened by the state highway commission in Helena on April 25.

Two men are held in Teton county jail Choteau on charges. Noel Williams 31 held for auto theft and unauthorized use of a car. Williams returned to Choteau from Billings last week. Darold Rundquist 29 Augusta to be arraigned for first degree burglary tied to Monarch Lumber Co Fairfield. Both arrests by local sheriffs.

Choteau Man Danz Injured in Collision on Vaughn Road
Gene F. Danz, 24, of Choteau, was critically injured in a head on crash Friday night near the Vaughn junction on the old Vaughn road. Gerald L. Smith, 34, of Great Falls, suffered a fractured jaw and arm with severe cuts. both vehicles involved had no skid marks and speed was not a factor.

Choteau High School science students collected the largest number of ratings among 38 schools at the State Science Fair in Missoula. Kathleen Stokes earned one of five superior ratings and won math books worth ten dollars for herself and the same for her school. Senior division score details list Choteau, Kalispell, Helena, Anaconda Central, Great Falls Central, Livingston, and Prineville participants with various ratings, while Audrey Sheble and Ron Pierre received excellent ratings and several others earned good ratings or honorable mention.

Franklin Free From Charge On Bad Check
Forgery charges against Richard Stewart Franklin were withdrawn after the FBI found handwriting samples could not positively identify his writing as that on a forged check. Franklin had been paroled to Heber Vance after eight months of a three year term and was returned to Montana State Prison for parole violation. He was held in Teton county jail for about four months before the FBI report.

Small Children To Hunt Eggs At Courthouse
Chateau Chamber of Commerce will host an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday April 21 on the courthouse lawn. The event divides the lawn into three age sections 2 years and under 2 4 year olds and 5 to 6 year olds. Only eligible children may enter egg planting areas and younger siblings may not assist. Texas Man Killed At Missile Mishap Near Simms
Larry Chalberg 38 of Fairfield was electrocuted when a crane touched a high tension line at a missile site nine miles south of Simms. Donald Kalin, also of Fairfield, was burned and treated for facial lacerations and burns. Chalberg born March 7 1924 in Austin Texas came to Montana in 1960 and lived in Fairfield three months survivors include widow Charlotte and five children.

J. R. Bretz a 36 year old lawyer with McCabe McCabe and Bretz opened a local office in Chateau this week. A University of Washington graduate he has nine years in Great Falls practice. The Acantha installed a large press driven by a five horsepower electric motor weighing about 20 000 pounds. It will cut production time and allow an expansion from eight to ten pages, with the paper now eight columns wide and two inches longer per column. The first edition on the new press was delayed by a smashed gear, replaced Thursday afternoon.
