Merlin Corson Shuler born December 2 1851 Lincoln county Pennsylvania died April 2 1914 at his home west of Chateau at 62 years 4 months He lived in Toledo Ohio Fort Shaw Upper Sun River Sun River Chateau and edited local papers including the Rising Sun and Choteau Mantanan Funeral services were held Friday with Rev Percy Reid McMahan presiding He was a respected longtime resident and farmer.

G M Coffey won the mayoral election for Chateau by 25 votes. In the wards Coffey led 26 to 15 in First Ward and 38 to 24 in Second Ward over opponents N N Haugen and I N Haugen. Aldermen J J Malmin Wim Hodgskiss A A C Burbank Clarence Looney were unopposed. Council takes office May 1.
