Isakson Department Store Opens in Chateau

More than 1 000 attended the grand opening of Isakson's Department Store in Chateau over two days. The couple served coffee punch and doughnuts while awarding merchandise prizes to Dr C W Boussard Mrs Wilbur Yeager and Jack Salmond.

FFA and science students shine at state meets in Bozeman and Missoula

Chateau Chapter FFA earned top recognitions at the 39th FFA State Leadership Conference in Bozeman. Louie Bouma and Steve Larson earned trips to Minneapolis for high placements in Grain and Range, with Bob Nauck joining as advisor. Robert Snodgrass earned a trip via the Montana Quality Grains program. The team placed bronze in all events, and the chapter received a superior rating from the Montana Association of FFA. In Missoula, Chateau science students led state science fair results with Frank Hensley earning an excellent rating and Mary Hensley winning the Grand Award in ninth grade. Hensley advances to Pasadena for NASA-NSTA Youth Science Congress. Advisor Reg Wearley praised the high-caliber projects and announced upcoming science fair ideas for 1970.

Sweepstakes Set to Begin at Chateau Chamber for Five Week Draw

The Chateau Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a five week Sweepstakes starting Saturday April 19 with a $50 prize every Saturday. Enter by signing a paper slip. no ticket numbers. Stores pay a $10 entry fee to fund $250 in prizes and advertising. Committeemen named to run the event.

Kelly Replaces Duane Maulding on Police Dept

Roger Kelly a 23 year old former Chateau resident and son of Mr and Mrs Ray Kelly was hired as a city policeman from eight applicants Chief Leon Gollehon said Kelly who served three years in the Army as a military policeman and has been a Flathead County deputy sheriff at Bigfork for six months will start after resigning his current post He replaces Duane Maulding who left the Choteau Police Department to become a Lewis and Clark County deputy sheriff at Lincoln Maulding had served about 14 months with the Choteau force Other applicants were Stephen D Miller Clifford Morgan Elmer White Starr G King Robert R Scheel Donald G Hansen and Charles G Brewster all of Choteau Augusta or nearby towns

Openings At Norma's Fabric Shop And Greenwood's Enco

Winners of door prizes from the Norma's Fabric Shop and Greenwood's Enco grand openings were announced. Good Friday Closing and Sunrise Services Set

Most business establishments in Chateau will close from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow to allow workers to attend church services. On Sunday morning the United Methodist Church M.Y.F. will sponsor Sunrise Services at Priest Butte south of Chateau beginning at about 6 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

School Trustee and City Elections Set for April Dates

Two elections loom in Montana with the school vote on Saturday April 5 at noon and the city ballot Monday April 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters decide two school trustees, three special levies, and local parking expansions linked to the Ed Schiller property. Easter Egg Hunt Set for Court House Lawn

Chateau area children six and under will hunt eggs Saturday at 1 p.m. on designated lawn sections. Arvid Sundet and the Boy Scout Troop run events with rules to hunt own eggs only. Local merchants supply eggs and prizes stamped with business names for prize eggs.

Sunday Auto Crash Claims Life Of Raymond Van Heel

Raymond H. Van Heel 47 of Dutton died Sunday night when his car was rammed during a drag race as it turned onto Fifteenth Street at Black Eagle. His wife Mary and daughter Elaine, plus Mr and Mrs John Wilson of Dutton, were injured, as was an unknown passenger in the other vehicle and an 18 year old Great Falls youth who drove it. Funeral services set for Thursday at St William's Church in Dutton with burial in Dutton Cemetery. Van Heel, born November 17 1921, served in the Army Air Corps in World War II and later operated the Club Tavern and Cafe, among other work, and was active in sports and the Dutton American Legion Post. He was survived by his widow, four daughters Lynette Elaine Virginia and Mary Arlene, a son Dennis, three brothers and a sister. funeral and survivor details appear in the notice.

Firemen Elect New Slate of Officers in Chateau

Grant Curtis was elected president of the Chateau Fire Department at the monthly meeting. Glen Yeager and Bill McCauley were named vice president and secretary-treasurer, with a five-member board including Pete Howard and others. Training begins April 8, with three-persons needed to reach a 20-member roster.

Skeslien Named To Manage Safeway Store in Choteau

Curt F. Skeslien was appointed Safeway store manager in Choteau replacing Don Fink who transferred to Cut Bank. Skeslien, an eight year Safeway veteran, came from Havre as assistant manager. He grew up in Shelby and is married to Carolyn with a seven year old daughter. Fink had led the Choteau chamber since January and previously worked 13 years with Safeway. Capt Mike Tietge, piloting a F-4 Phantom on the Eisenhower flyby, is married to Terry Vance of Choteau.
