George Doler More Records Heroic World War I Service
George Doler More returned to duty from France today after active service from the Chateau Thierry drive to the armistice. He and his brother Charley and Halvor Daley fought at Chateau Thierry and Belleau Wood with Company Mise, where Daley was wounded and More was shot through both legs. He later fought in the Argonne Wood and was slightly wounded in a bayonet duel. He witnessed a 350-plane bombing raid that destroyed a German position behind a hill. French civilians, ignorant of American participation, cheered as German retreats left beer for the doughboys. On November 9 he returned to base hospital and by the 11th could see rockets celebrating the armistice from his window.
