The House debated the Teller resolution for five hours with strict limits. Majority Republicans held the line on silver, voting 192 to 182 after a dramatic roll call. Several Democrats and one Republican presented dissent as Speaker Reed supported adjournment at 8 p.m.
Dr. C. Simmons, renowned physician, died in Atlanta at his daughter Thelbaunt’s residence after a brief illness linked to heart condition. The late Southern medical pioneer had earlier ties to the Simmons Liver Institute and was widely esteemed for medical service.
An aged husband and wife, about eighty and seventy, were killed in their home on Monday and robbed of money. No clew to the murderers exists as a dark hooded assailant or assailants remain at large. Police and neighbors report the crime as brutal with no immediate suspects.

Nashville dispatch reports Governor Taylor has posted a 200 dollar reward for the capture and conviction of whitecappers driving away negro citizens in Gleason Weakley County. Local residents have added funds to reward the arrest of the criminals.
The Channel Queen, a Plymouth to Jersey passenger steamer, struck rocks off Guernsey during fog at dawn and sank. Most passengers were asleep in berths and unaware of danger. At least 44 lives are reported lost with the total aboard still unconfirmed.
