Congress Votes Pay Hike For Members Of House

Plane crashes into homes near Lake Charles killing five
A crippled B-47 Stratojet on an emergency approach to Lake Charles Air Force Base crashed into five houses and several trailer homes. Five people, the three crew members and a young couple, died in the fiery blast. One man in a destroyed trailer was badly burned as the wreckage scattered through the residential area.

James Davis Fined On Liquor Charge
James E. Davis of Childress was fined 350 dollars and costs in County Court after pleading guilty to possession of alcoholic beverages in a dry area for resale. The fine was set by County Judge Leonard King following a Sunday raid at Foster's Garage, 711 Avenue F. Ne. whiskey was confiscated. other weekend raids occurred with no further charges. Estelline Youth In Critical Condition After Car Crash
Montie Richardson 18 remains in critical condition at Childress General Hospital after a Monday morning single vehicle crash near the Drive-In Theater. The wreck killed Jack L. Bowman 29 of Estelline, who was driving with young Richardson as a passenger. Bowman’s funeral occurred at the Estelline Church of Christ with burial in Estelline Cemetery. Bowman was a Marine Corps veteran, born July 13 1925, and survived by wife Ruth and two children, Elien Ruth and Bobby Jack, along with parents and a brother.

SAN ANGELO March 1 UP A nitroglycerin torpedo prepared at an oil well exploded Monday killing three men and seriously injuring two others. Victims were C R Boyd and Raymond Earl Ridley of Snyder and W B Floyd of Wichita Falls. Injured were C W Boyles and his son Hollis of Oklahoma City. The blast occurred on a Schleich er county hill near Christoval as Ridley prepared to lower the explosive.

A weak cool front moved across Texas Tuesday drying the moist air. No real severe weather is expected. Sprinkles were reported, but nothing measurable. Cooler air to cover the state Tuesday night with 36 to 46 degrees in North Central Texas, 40 in East Texas, and 28 to 38 in the Panhandle and South Plains. Lows ranged from 20 at Dalhart to 68 at Corpus Christi and Brownsville, with other readings including 32 in Lubbock and 65 in Houston.
