Dahlias Deep in Sandy Loamy Soil for Best Growth
Henry Pree explains dahlia planting in sandy loamy, well drained soil with about 2 1/2 feet between rows. Tubers go in 6 to 8 inch holes, six inches of soil over them, staking at 6 feet, and gradual soil filling as sprouts grow. Monthly feeding begins when plants reach one foot. Varieties include Coltness Hybrids, Unwin Dwarf Hybrid, Unwin Ideal Bedding, all tubers require lifting before frost and winter storage in sand or vermiculite.
