Detroit General Motors shuts 20 plants nationwide affecting 59,260 union workers due to disruptive wildcat strikes. Most have ended but temporary parts shortages forced the move. plants expected to reopen by Monday as GM and the CIO United Auto Workers face lengthy contract talks.
Colorado Springs reports Attorney General Herbert Brownell signaled a possible relaxation of the rule banning courtroom photographs. He told the National Press Photographers Association that a model courtroom could be tested to show press photographers can protect the interests of justice while operating in courtrooms.
A 21 year old man Jacob Alfred Anderson was arrested by Chil dress police early today for violation of the Dwyer Act. He is wanted in Sentinel Oklahoma for burglary of the John Deere Company. Officers Gilliland and Ricks found a stolen 1955 Ford with a two way radio, tied to the theft. About 134 dollars were recovered as part of the loot.
A collision at 11 50 involved Dewey Lee Frazier of 900 Avenue F Northwest and Mildred S Murray of 901 Avenue J Northwest. Frazier traveling west on Avenue F struck Murray who was northbound on Ninth Street. Officers say Frazier did not see Murray in time. No damage to Murray vehicle and no tickets issued.
The House Appropriations Committee rejected President Eisenhower’s request for 6.5 million for the Dixon-Yates project and redirected the funds to a new TVA power plant. The panel proposed a broad 1.276 billion dollar funding bill for federal power, flood control, rivers and harbors, plus AEC, while slashing AEC and TVA budgets and signaling a Republican fight next week over Dixon-Yates and Southwestern Power Administration allocations.
The US Public Health Service says it will improve handling of future vaccines after lessons from the Salk polio vaccine issues. Surgeon General Leonard A. Scheele presented a report to President Eisenhower citing faulty safety tests in mass production and new government safety requirements to ensure vaccine safety.
Eisenhower signed into law a bill giving the Post Office Department 500000 field workers an average eight per cent raise retroactive to March 1. The measure includes a six per cent base boost plus a two per cent reclassification bonus, adding about 160 million to annual payroll.

A tele gram from Walter McKay state director of FHA states county FHA committees may certify eligible applications for a 60 day supply beyond June 30 considering on hand feed. All feed must be delivered by June 30 and applications received by June 22 will be acted on June 23.
East zone officials led by Walter Ulbricht announced intentions to form a national army and institute conscription for thousands of youths. Ulbricht, speaking to the Communist party central committee, framed the move as defense under war saw agreements and warned Western powers.
Maj. Gen. John B. Montgomery of the Strategic Air Command quits instead of retiring, citing family and medical expenses. He seeks private jobs and says he is young and healthy enough to earn a living without government benefits. Secretary Talbot said he accepted the resignation with regret.

A forest fire near Fulton Georgia threatened 30 000 acres of timber as winds surged.
A cold front brings heavy rains across Texas reducing highs and setting new June records in Dallas Fort Worth and Wichita Falls with lows reaching 51 at Wichita Falls and 40 at Dalhart. The Lower Colorado River Authority reports lakes at ten year highs while Dallas Fort Worth reservoirs gain billions of gallons. Two farmers died in lightning strikes during storms linked to the weather event.
Six men from Childress joined water officials and citizens from nearby towns to inspect the Red River dam site near Hedley. The proposed project would supply about 25 million gallons daily to Hedley Clarendon Memphis Paducah Quanah Childress and Wellington, with a Clarendon meeting following the site tour.

Swedish police describe two blasts in Stockholm and at the Soviet embassy and a Swedish Soviet society office as teenage pranks. No injuries reported. Inspector Ake Hasselrot calls Thursday night’s explosion very improper and links the two incidents as connected.
Tom Hestand longtime Chil Dress High School football line coach and head track coach resigns to become assistant football coach at Ranger Junior College in Ranger Texas. His resignation will be accepted at the next Board of Trustees meeting. no replacement named. Hestand also taught algebra at the high school. Thelma Cox third grade teacher at Wilson School resigns and moves to California per Supt. Newell Odell.
President Eisenhower named Lt. Gen. Isaac Davis White to command Army forces in the Far East and the Eighth Army, with a promotion to four star rank. White moves from Fort Sam Houston where he led the Fourth Army. The changes follow Gen. Max D. Taylor’s elevation to Army chief of staff and Gen. Lemnitzer’s move to head the Far East and United Nations commands.
