Rescue Hopes Dim For Badger State Crewmen
Mounting waves and rising winds dimmed rescue hopes for 20 crewmen who abandoned the munitions ship Badger State after an explosion tore a hole in her right side about 1,500 miles northwest of Hawaii. Fourteen men, including the skipper, were rescued by the Greek freighter Khian Star and were en route to Yokohama. Bodies sighted by the Flying Dragon were not recovered due to heavy seas and fuel constraints.

Former Resident Collie Armstrong Dies in Amarillo
Collie Armstrong 90 of Amarillo, formerly of Childress, died Sunday at Northwest Texas Hospital. Born in Robertson County, he moved to Amarillo in 1949 from Childress. He belonged to Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church and Jenkins Masonic Lodge 2016. Survived by wife Effie, four sons Henry Los Angeles William Collie Jr and R J Galveston, daughter Leola Parker Amarillo, two stepdaughters Bernice Brown Gerlene Jacobs Los Angeles, brother Tom Los Angeles, 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Funeral services pending.

Perryton Man Is Arrested For Theft
Jesus P. Flores of Perryton was arrested by the Sheriff's Department last week and charged with breaking and entering the W. P. Fowler residence at Kirkland on Christmas day. Sheriff J. E. Benham and deputy Odis Burrows recovered two heating stoves a lawnmower venetian blind and a battery charger. Bond was set at $1,000 and Flores posted bond and was released.

Ticket for failure to yield rights after two car crash
A Newton Kansas man, James Patterson, received a ticket for failure to grant right of way after a Sunday two vehicle collision at the junction of Highways 287 and 83. Arthur Tyler of Garland drove east on 287 and collided with Patterson headed south on 83. Both vehicles were heavily damaged with no injuries. Nick D. Break-Ins Reported With One Successful Theft
Police report two attempted break-ins and one successful theft over the weekend.
