Israeli leaders denounce American Middle East peace plans as appeasement to the Arabs and warn they block progress toward peace. Israeli commandos strike Egypt’s Red Sea naval base for a second time in five days as U S Israel relations deteriorate.
The National Safety Council warned 800 to 920 people may be killed in traffic accidents over the Christmas weekend. Council president Howard Pyle urged caution and moderation in holiday drinking, noting an hour should pass per drink to stay unimpaired amid heavy traffic, poor weather, and early darkness.
A pilotless Navy F8J Crusader crashed into a Miramar Naval Air Station hangar injuring fourteen and killing eleven maintenance crew. The pilot parachuted to safety after oil pressure trouble. fire officials call the impact a terrible misfortune.

AP reports 50 dead and 35 injured from the South Vietnamese airliner crash at Nha Trang. Officials say totals could change as some aboard and on the ground remain unaccounted for. The DC-6B carried 66 adults, four children and eight crew members on a flight from Saigon to Nha Trang and Da Nang.
The massive tax reform bill cleared Congress with a 71 to 6 Senate vote and 381 to 2 House vote, paving the way for President Nixon to sign into law. The package includes 9.1 billion in tax cuts offset by 6.5 billion in revenue.
Four ordinances approved at last night’s City Council meeting include taxi franchise for Sylvester White in Childress, plus rules on city property use at intersections unsafe structures and inoperative vehicles. Several homes in Childress received Honorable Mention in the Home Christmas Lighting Contest announced by Dick Preston chair of the Community Development committee of the Chamber of Commerce sponsors. First and second place had been announced earlier. Honorable Mention recipients include Southeast Larkin Wallis Lloyd Stone Gus Leftwich Howard Preston Jerry Hassell and Max Foster Northeast Lloyd Luck Jack Webb and Dr P A Preslar Southwest Pete Nichols Earl Keys Northwest Sam Lewellan Bob Fischer and John Bryant.
County offices will close tomorrow at noon and reopen on December 29. County Attorney Clarence Carter announced the schedule while noting that officers will be available if needed.
A cool front moved into South Texas but should bring little change. Clouds from the front clear quickly while most of the state stays mostly clear. A brief shower crossed College State early. no further precipitation expected. Temperatures fall slightly today and tonight with a warmer Wednesday. Readings range from the Panhandle 20s to 30s to 60s in the south and coast. Coastal winds ease from gusts to 25 knots to 8 to 16 knots by evening.
State Representative Bill Heatly spoke in Paducah about a proposed Farm-To-Market road from U S 287 to FM 2562 to U S 83 with a spur to Ross Road. About 30 residents attended including local commissioners. Wade pleads guilty to driving while intoxicated and fined 142 dollars.
City records show the one cent sales tax brought in $41,590.35 to the city in the first nine months of 1969. The third quarter rose slightly from the second, with $15,648.43. Second quarter was $14,339.45 and first quarter $11,602.47. Fourth quarter receipts are projected to exceed $20,000.
Jessie Gordon Obie Bristow a noted Texas figure died by hanging authorities ruled it a suicide. The former legislator pro football player and oil operator was 6 foot 200 pounds known for a booming voice and eloquent speech. He gained fame in 1930 aiding his father’s kidnapping case in Mexico and at his death was writing a golf book. Bristow played for the University of Oklahoma as an All Fullback and served in the Texas Legislature from 1953 to 1959.
Mrs Ed Inman was found dead at her home 408 Avenue Inc this afternoon. Officials indicate a heart attack as the cause and say she may have died earlier today. Her husband has been ill and treated at Childress General Hospital for several weeks.
Fort Worth astronaut Alan Bean told about 3 000 residents at the Tarrant County Convention Center this was Fort Worth Day not his own He called the welcome the most memorable day of his life on this Earth as Apollo 12 colleagues Pete Conrad and Dick Gordon looked on.
Police found a Sherman officer and a filling station attendant shot dead early today. A Sherman family, Joseph and Mrs Robinson and their 2 year old Bradley, were abducted by two nervous men and driven to Dallas where they were released on a street corner. Police broadcast a lookout for the two suspects.
Walter F. Carter 85, retired farmer and stockman, died at 9:30 am in Childress General Hospital. Funeral at 11 am Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. J E Shewbert officiating. Interment in Childress Cemetery by Newberry's. Survivors: son Fletcher Carter, sisters Carrie Wilson and Maude Couch, two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The Air Force halted all 223 F111 swing wing jets after a training crash in Nevada killed Lt. Col. Thomas J. Mack, 38, of Viola Illinois, and Maj. James L. Anthony, 35, of Big Spring. The move marks the fifth grounding in under two years as investigators review the cause.
