Battle Near Saigon Kills Over 200 Communists
UPI reports American infantrymen in a six hour jungle battle 35 miles northwest of Saigon killed more than 200 Communist fighters. The clash involved U S 1st Infantry Division troops and a larger Communist unit near the Iron Triangle. Marines conducted a separate operation at Phu Thu and another patrol killed about 30 Viet Cong northeast of Saigon.

Sister of Local Woman Is Hospitalized
The condition of Mrs Lois Hutchins of Floydada, injured in a one car accident Friday, was reported as good as could be expected at Memorial Center Hospital in Plainview. Her sister Mrs Alton Landrum of Childress said Hutchins, a newspaper carrier, suffered two broken arms a broken nose and deep facial lacerations during the crash when the car hit a telephone pole.

Moscow reports Luna 8 sped toward the moon for a soft landing near the Sea of Storms just after midnight Moscow time. Tass said the mission aims to survey the lunar surface with cameras and instruments, paving the way for a manned flight. The landing would precede the Supreme Soviet session.

Mid Cold Front Moves Through Texas With Mild Outlook
United Press International reports a mild cold front crossing Texas will not end the late autumn warmth. Overnight temps ranged from 29 in Dalhart to 56 in El Paso and Claiborne with no rainfall in 24 hours. Dry mornings showed highs in the 20s Panhandle to the 50s Gulf Coast as temps rose to 77 in Mineral Wells and Fort Worth and 65 in Brownsville.

Prisoners Escape From Anson County Jail
Three prisoners escaped from Jones County jail Anson Texas including Gerald Knight of Dallas an alleged rapist Pete Guerrero a burglary suspect and Kenneth Chase a swindling charge. Jail official Art Beassey said outside help with a key may have aided the breakout and noted no overnight guard and no town car thefts. Encampment of VFW Closes Sunday
About 75 officers and representatives from 13 VFW posts in District 13 attended the annual encampment here Saturday. Mear Davis of Plainview presided over VFW sessions and Mrs Alta Davis of Hereford led the Auxiliary.
