Windstorm Crashes Gatesville Cafe Killing Two Texans
A severe windstorm possibly a tornado toppled stone buildings in Gatesville, burying Charley Brown and Fred Ray inside the Buckhorn Cafe. Mrs. Bud Henderson was rescued with no serious injuries as adjacent shops also collapsed. Fire crews and highway patrol combed the rubble for other victims.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete. Tell Oil Test Should Reach Depth Today
The A. H. Griggs Smith No. 1 wildcat northwest of Tell is expected to reach its contract depth of 7 900 feet today. The gauge showed 7 912 feet this morning while the logging machine indicated 7 899 feet. Griggs said they would go back in the hole and may go 25 feet below the contract depth. The test remains in the Mississippi sand. Ellenberger has not been reached and likely won’t be in the next 25 feet. He noted major oil firms chose not to go deeper and that no more wildcats are planned in the area for now.

Burial followed in Childress Cemetery under the Newberry Funeral Home direction. Leslie a native of Arkansas died Monday afternoon at 3 55 and had lived here since 1896.
