Six New Teachers Hired To Complete Childress Staff
The Childress School System announced at the Board of Trustees meeting that six new teachers were secured to complete the staff. A. D. Johnson will replace Tom Hestand as high school math teacher and coach of the B football squad. Others include Mrs. Orville K. Smith in second grade, Mrs. Buford Austin in fifth grade, Mrs. Earl Preston in sixth grade, Truman Kidwell in Vocational Agriculture, Miss Jo Hazel Williams in seventh and eighth grades and music, with the first grade kindergarten at East Ward taught by Mrs. Luther Bradley. Several resignations were noted, including 30-year veteran Miss Sybil Alexander.

Commissioners Take No Action On Auditor's Bill
The Childress County court did not settle the Cornell and Company audit bill, over $8,000 for a four year county audit. The firm’s Wilbur Swenson, who attended, later said he would not attend the session. The court offered $5,000. The session approved several personnel and budget actions, including using $100 from the Jury Fund for a resuscitator valued over $600, a hospital bill payment of $4,821.08, and a lease with Carpenter Machinery for a crawler tractor and bulldozer for Precinct 4. Frannie Byrd was named county treasurer during an interim. The court also noted a $12,986.37 payment from the Road Debtedness board for lateral roads and moved all fine monies into the officers salary fund.
