Expect Consumer Demand for Fruit to Improve
Washington DC. Sept 2 The Bureau of Agricultural Economics says fruit prices this summer are lower than supply alone would indicate due to reduced consumer incomes. Some improvement in incomes and demand is expected as the season progresses. Apples are scarcer but not much higher priced than last year. Pears are cheaper than last season despite similar output to 1937. California grape crop is down slightly, early table grapes cheaper than last year. Citrus and peaches remain low priced.
