The Produce Dealers Division and a majority of its members argued that a Kansas City Mo. market would better serve wholesale dealers and truck farmers, warning a Kansas City Kan. market would split the market and harm public interest. The Salt Lake valley begins moving its finest quality Elberta peaches this week with 600 car tonnage expected, about 10 percent above 1937. Most fruit is Elberta with some Hale varieties, packed in bushel baskets and aimed for packing by September 15. Weather is ideal and fruit quality and keepability are among the best seen in years. Movement may extend as fruit reaches maturity.

Cranberry Crop Near 1937 Levels Fall Short
Government pre-season estimates place this year’s Massachusetts harvest at about 370000 barrels, New Jersey 75000, and Wisconsin 65000 for a total around 510000 barrels. Harvests in Massachusetts and New Jersey begin next week with slim early movement anticipated before September 15 to 20. Doc Apple Film Sent To Sweden From Yakima
Yakima Washington September 2 arrangements have been made by J E Klahre manager of Pacific Northwest Fruits Inc for sending the Doc Apple film to Sweden. Swedish interests Nillsson Blide Nordiska Kompaniet and Joh Bruce of Stockholm will show it. Two Gothenburg concerns will also exhibit the picture. An English explanation will be translated into Swedish. The film will also go to Finland where it was shown last spring to 490 persons and will be distributed there for two months.

Big Vegetable Growers Assn in Convention

In Rocky Ford Colorado cooler wet weather kept cantaloupe movement modest though demand stayed good with generally steady prices.
