Chicago October 26 Barred apples remained in good demand this week with light arrivals and firm higher prices for fancy fruit. No. 1 stock prices ranged from $4.50 to $8.60 per barrel for varieties including Jonathan Grimes Golden Baldwin and Spie s. Orchard stocks quoted at $1.50 to $1.50 less, No. 2 stock at $2.50 to $3.28.
Chicago reports a steady opening for the week in deciduous fruits as Western arrivals taper while apples stay soft. Monday offerings include California and Northwest shipments with prices for Grapes Tokays and Malagas, Apples from Washington and Idaho, and seasonal fruits such as Peaches Elberta and Italian Plums.
