New York Nov 29 prices for cranberries moved higher with strong demand. Early offerings of eastern late varieties sold in quarter barrel boxes at 4.25 to 4.50 dollars, with eighth barrel boxes at 2.25 to 2.35 and early varieties around 2.50 to 2.75 per quarter barrel. After Thanksgiving demand slackened the tone stayed steady with no price change. arrivals of early varieties showed better quality and moved about 3.75 to 4 dollars per quarter barrel box.

The Colorado public utilities commission authorized railroads to implement special reduced potato shipment rates within the state from December 2 to March 31 to meet truck competition. A 35 cent per cwt rate applies to carload loads from Greeley to common points. Florida vegetable shipments steady after light frost

Florida Supreme Court Upheld Chain Store Tax In Part
Florida's State Supreme Court upheld in part the chain store tax law, preserving an occupational license tax of 10 to 400 dollars on single stores rising to 16 or more and a 0.5 percent gross receipts levy. It struck down the graduated scale 0.5 to 1 percent as unequal. The court ruled the 0.5 percent levy applies to all stores, so the occupational license tax should not be doubled. If upheld, the case may go to the U S Supreme Court.

Washington November 29 tax exempt potato stamps became real as the government presses began an initial run of 1 888 000 stamps. Florida received the first shipment by messenger to meet the Potato Act's midnight Saturday start. Additional lots were sent by air to South Texas and Southern California for December harvests.
