In Brawley California on March 12 the Imperial Valley lettuce market showed a slight weakening with moderate demand as the deal nears closure. Carloads mostly sold at 3.00 per crate for fives, sixes and 80 sizes at 2.75, 90s at 1.85, a few higher. Inspected cars this week ran around 25 percent fives, 50 percent sixes and 80g, with a quarter 90s. Daily shipments averaged 14 cars for the seven days ending Wednesday, down from 86 last week and 119 the prior week.

Lakeland Florida March 12 The Citrus Control Committee at its weekly meeting recommended Valencia orange allotments to extend from now through the last of June. Current Valencias are about 15 000 cars with 1200 cars weekly planned for seven weeks to May 1 1000 cars for the week ending May 8 then decreasing 100 cars weekly through June. About 50 cars of midseason oranges remain to be shipped and volume restrictions were eased. The grapefruit allotment for next week was set at 500 cars.

Freight Claims Rule Amended to Shift Liability on Delayed Cars
Chicago March 12 The Association of American Railroads announced Article 5 of the Principles and Practices for Freight Claims has been amended so carriers may assume liability for delay to the point of diversion if ownership changes there and a loss is proven by the difference between market values at arrival and expected arrival. Dietrich of AARP says the Freight Claim Division will meet trade groups to eliminate controversy and mis understanding. The issue has drawn protest from fruit and vegetable shippers and Western fruit jobbers. The AA RRs released a circular noting amendments to the fourth paragraph of Article 5 effective March 3 1937 for unpaid claims.
