State fruit growers urged focus on profitable varieties
Largest commercial growers in the state report 60 varieties while several have 40 and the average is about 25. The situation is called interesting but pathetic, prompting a statewide push to concentrate production on a dozen highly profitable varieties. Cc. E. Durst of Chicago advised plantings in New England states and several others, warning against the Courtland apple until its quality is known amid ongoing disputes. The Exchange shows another prosperous year with profits across departments and fruit pool payments overrun, distributing several hundred dollars to growers. Nine new directors were elected: Verne Kenter, Kell Khox, Leon Shepmid, Frank G. B. Mechem, T. Gooding, G. L. DuVall, U. S. Crane, and D. W. Wadsworth.
